Question for fellow SoCalers

What city do you live in and are you happy there? I live and work in Burbank. Lived here all my life and I'm sick of it. My wife and I feel like Los Angeles no longer has anything good to offer and to be honest some parts of Los Angeles are like a 3rd world country. I feel like it's time for a change in my life and moving to a different city is at the top of my list of priorities. I was thinkin of maybe Valencia/Canyon Country but I here that it's getting way overcrowded out there. Simi Valley looks like it might be a better option. I like Orange County, but the commute to and from my work in Burbank would kill me. I really like Redlands alot. Nice and guiet little city that is very family friendly. We have a kid on the way and it seems like a real good place to raise a family. However, in the summer it's very hot and it's one hell of a drive to be doing 6 days a week. Any recommendations?

I'm in Corona, not bad but would not be my first choice if I had your commute. Grew up in La Habra, not bad but not the best place to raise a kid. Fullerton is a great place to live, pretty cool original homes and businesses still around and a lot of nice restaruants and bars to check out. Again, the commute will suck since it's still in the OC

Sounds like its time to get out of LA try nor cal not quite as hot, not as much trafic and nice people. or just move further north from where your at.

Im in Moreno valley/ riverside. About 20 mind from redlands 10 if I take the canyon road from Moreno valley to redlands and I like it here. Im 15 mind away from the back side of lake perris and about half hour or so from Elsinore. Moreno valley is growin pretty fast but if you go more twords the eastern side its a nice area.

kids are the big one! have to find a place where your kids can play and be safe and happy, try a gated comunity. there anoyying but safe!

I'm in Vegas, came down from Orygun to be by the river I was raised in OC. The river is now a toilet so I'm looking at places up NE of Sacramento, Gold Country.

I live in Saugus, which is Valencia/canyon country. It is a good town to have a family in, yes it is crowded but nothing like the San Fernando Valley. Only problem is it is a bit pricy to live out here. And It seems like everyone is always trying to keep up with the jones'. Other than that I like living here

I'm in Mentone (Just east of Redlands on hwy 38) and have been for the last 20 years. The Redlands, Mentone, Yucaipa area has grown a lot in that time but is still a great place to live. When I grew up in Riverside it was a good place to live, but now it really seems run down and a little rough.

My sister lives in Yucaipa and was doing the Metro-link commute to LA for about a year after the Judge she worked for transferred from Riverside to LA. After a year she was burned out bad and changed jobs just to be able to stay in the Inland Empire.

What ever you choose it might be worth while to rent an apartment for a month (move only what you need) and see if you are willing to stay before you commit to something that could be life changing.

Buena Park, bout 100ft from La Mirada. I like it for So Cal, but can't afford to own anything here.

The woman wants to move to North Carolina in the worst way. We visited for shits and grins two years ago. I must say it is beautiful and clean with an abundance of unpopulated lakes and waterways. Weather sucks ass though.

I'd go to Flagstaff in a heartbeat if there was work and no female.

I'm also in OC, lived in Downey for a little (too young to actually remember) but I'm in Placentia now. It's cool I like the area but some of Placentia's laws and shit suck! I'd live some where around her if I could afford it. Haha. Parts of Garden Grove is pretty nice, Buena Park is nice too. But all those would really suck to commit too.

I live in Corona for the past 4 years and before that was in the city of orange before that.As for how happy I am im very happy especially cause I work in fontana so I never have to sit in the 91 traffic

I think you have to consider the commute above all else. I spent most of my life driving the 91 freeway thru the Santa Ana canyon. There is no worse traffic on the planet than that stretch of road. Every job I have ever had has involved at least an hour commute. INHO anything over an hour twice a day just isn't worth it because you just miss too much of your family life. It seems like you have kinda already nailed down you options -- either Valencia or the valley. I would say that Valencia is a very nice area for families but they do have to close I-5 for weather often and that would be a big PITA for me year after year. Also bear in mind that if you are going to commute it is preferable to live somewhat east of work so you are not always driving into the sun.

Good luck in whatever you decide, and if you actually decide on Corona or Redlands let me know as I could probably rent you a house in either place.

Yes the 5 gets close a few times a year but they close it at the base of te grapevine which is about 5 miles north in castaic so unless you work stupid hours you more than likely will not be affected.

Stay away from the 91! It doesn't matter what time of day it is, there is always traffic. It's literally a parking lot for the better part of 5 hours a day.

I have lived in the Glendora/La Verne area my whole life and love it. Lots of cities in this area are great for family life. The closer you can get to the foothills, the less through traffic you will have which brings the safety factor way up. We really only see our neighbors on our block. Any other cars are noticed pretty quickly. I really like the fact that there is a "smallish" town feel yet we are reasonably close to whatever we want to do.

Depending on what time you would be commuting to Burbank, I would say your commute would be anywhere from 40 mins to 1 hour plus. Prices can be pretty high in some areas depending on what you are looking for. I live in the older section "near" the rich folk.

I work in comifornia and live in Yuma Az. Love Yuma, minutes from river, dunes, & desert. Summers are rough but winters are great. Az is ultra gun friendly and schools are good. It's worth the hour drive to work. Only problem is job market blows.

I didn't reAd the rest of the tread but just wanted tonthrow it in there that you could take the metro or Amtrak, from simi valley. I have a friend that rides from there into downtown, says it beats driving to work everyday. Just my 2cents on that option. I suppose you could do that from some other places too, would just have to check if the metro runs through the city your in. Bam!

I'd take the 91 over the 5 any fockin day. I work in sd quite a bit, and I'll pay the damn toll to click over to 91 on the way home.
