25 years old or older nullifies smog checks in California now.

Sorry to say this , but here is a quote from the DMV site  >:( .  I dont know if motor homes have somekind of special rules or not  ??? .

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older .  http://www.dmv.ca.gov/online/vrir/faqsmog.htm

And one from the Bureau of Automotive Repair.
Beginning April 1, 2005, the 30-year rolling exemption has been repealed. Instead, vehicles 1975 model-year and older will be exempt. Therefore, 1976 model-year and newer vehicles will continue to be subject to biennial inspection indefinitely. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StdPage.asp?Body=/Smogcheck/doineed.htm

Which sucks 'cause my 77 race van was supposed to have its last smog check right when they killed to rolling exemption. Looking to find pre 75 chassis now...

The reason for '76 being the lucky year that will never drop off is because that was the first year for catalytic converters on passenger cars.

The motorhome depending on size might only need a 2 speed idle test and not the dyno run required for passenger cars and light trucks.

'75 was the first year for unleaded gas. That's why performance went downhill big time that year.
Check out the performance numbers on a '75 anything and you'll see what i mean.

I believe you both are incorrect, 1974 was the first year for unleaded gas and catalytic converter's. What came first, the chicken or the egg?  :D
