Over the past year or so I've been asked many times why I haven't started a SCJB Facebook Group. My initial reaction was hell no, no way, not in a million years. My reasons being it would take traffic away from the site and unlike a forum, there is no way for someone to search out an old post without digging through tons of other posts. So if someone says "hey, I got a problem with [insert issue here]", you couldn't be like " oh yeah, this guy had the same problem, here's a link to his thread" Also, I was just bitter that some average Joe could create a group with a few clicks and have a thousand members in the group overnight. SCJB took many years to get where it is at and it took a hell of a lot more than a few clicks to make this site.
But lately, I've been thinking long and hard about...what if I did create a group. What would I gain from it vs what I would lose from it.
In the last year, Facebook has made it impossible to get your facebook page seen unless you Boost it (pay to get views). The SCJB Facebook page only gets 20-50 likes on a post I don't boost. If I boost it for $20-$40 for 7 days, I get 250+ likes and nearly 10,000 views. I figure I can promote SCJB better in a group, people actually see it if they are a member in the group. I can promote events better and link back to threads on the website to get more traffic to the site - all while not having to spend money to get people to see what I am posting.
So, in that being said - this website has been amazing over the years. Lets make this group amazing too. So don't be sharing into the group every dick n fart joke you see scrolling across your feed. Lets keep it fun, no drama, no ford/chevy/dodge bashing, no dumb memes....post up you boats, weekend trips, event pictures, etc.
Lastly, I want be clear - this is a trial by fire. If it doesn't go as planned, I'll pull the plug on it.
So here it is, the new SCJB Facebook Group, Join Now!
