Temp Gauge

Anybody have any ideas ?
1. Working electric auto meter gauge
2. Brand new / correct sending unit
3. Checked power and ground at gauge
4, Checked sending unit wire continuity
from gauge to terminal
5. No tape or paste on sending unit
6. Ran on hose 3 times for over
15 minutes, temp has always come
up to approx. 160 depending on
hose pressure adjusment.

Have you used a manual gauge or temp gun to verify the gauge is reading correctly?

Same crap Dennis, I purchased 2 more
new sending units from the same speed
shop as the one we replaced last season on the beach. No worky !
I think maybe I bought the last of a bad
batch of sending units ?
About to try the third new one I purchased from there.
At this point I believe I've checked everything else there is to check.
But I am getting old and forget S*@t !

Try checking the ohms after dropping a sending unit in a cup of water heated in the microwave.

Make sure you don't microwave the sensor... it makes lightning.

Joe, ohms do go down after heating.
So maybe not grounding well enough
in intake manifold ?
Wish I had a stupid thermometer to check for specific readings.

You try adding a ground directly from the gauge to the block? See if it makes a difference?

Jimmy, I gotta be me... but I do seem
to have problems with sending units
or at least these. Have not run a ground
to the block. These particular units seem to be defective. Maybe I can set up a stand on the side of the road and discount them. Ha ha ha...

Biggest issue my customers had with this complaint was not grounding the gauge itself.

i dont know if this helps or not...

But i emailed Autometer about my oil pressure gauge. It reads almost exactly half of what a mechanical gauge reads (verified with two mechanical gauges)

And they told me not to use any thread sealent or tape on the sender. Might not be grounding good enough.

Also told me to check the gauge ground. In my case i know thats not the issue but it might be yours

Almost all the issues I see with gauges (fuel, oil, water, ect) is bad grounds.

Correction. Almost all electrical problems I see is lack of or undersized grounds.

Did you check the ground at the gauges does the block grounded to the battery just my thoughts

Ran separate ground from gauge to block, no change.
Using no tape or paste on adapter into intake manifold.
Grounded sending unit wire to block and gauge pegs as it should.
I am sure wiring is good from previous owner.
Gauge has power at its I terminal.
I'm running out of ideas.
Checked ohms at sending unit when warmed up and seems about right but gauge not reading over 100*
If i can get to Mooneyes I will pick up a mech screw in just so i feel better.
Dont want yo miss the trip.

Is there a ground cable from the battery to the block? The ground from the battery should have a cable directly to the block. You can check to see if it's good with a digital meter. One prong to positive side of the battery and the other to the block. It should read the same as it does from post to post on ur battery. If u don't have a good meter and are in the SGV area I can swing by and give u a hand. Sometimes it just takes a second pair of eyes looking at it to see the obvious.

1 1/2 hours from you. I think i will just pick up the mech. and not worry about it. Just running out of time.
Oh well, oil temp not hooked up and no boost gauge this trip either. Hopefully the gas gauge works, we seem to have more trouble with that anyways. LMAO
