throttle hand or foot?
« on: December 30, 2009, 08:54:29 PM »
My boat has a hand throttle and runs around mid 60's. Is the main reason for the foot throttle  for faster boats to keep 2 hands on the wheel? At what speeds do you guys feel this is necessary? Sorry for the newbie question Brian.

Never hold the wheel with both hands cuz yer beer will spill every single time.   :banghead:

Touche ......

My 21 Hallett cruiser went from a hand job to a foot......

I've heard of people leaving the hand throttle hooked up and using it in conjuntion with a foot pedal.
The lever becomes a cruise control of sorts
I wouldnt recomend it.
I've just heard of it .

I've never driven a jet boat with a hand throttle, but I can tell you I feel I have better throttle control with a foot throttle.

I dunno, I would think the whole apparatus was developed to attract the hot rodders in the 70's when hot rodding on the street wasn't cool anymore all of a sudden (LEO and new law passment).

Just My opinion, but the rise of the Jet Boat seems to exactly coincide with the death of the Muscle Car.

Personally, I wouldn't be without a foot throttle. Clean, simple, and very ergonomic and intuitive with all of us!

Hand throttle is great for a rental boat.  You don't have to worry about not being comfortable with the pedal location because of the non-adjustable seating.  It fits everybody.   ;D

Does anyone know where I can rent a blown flatty with a hand throttle?  :D

I think big cruiser = hand throttle

Little hot rod = foot throttle

Personally I like the foot throttle one reason being I like both hand available anyway one for beer and the other to steer...but cool guy beer holders keep em close and cozy....some of you know my trick idea on how I did this...

went from a hand job to a foot......

ummmmm.......

ive driven alot of tournament boats and outboards, they have hand throttles. outboard is easy because the slow speed turning is very responsive. tournament boats are similar to jets where they dont really turn unless you gas it. i like the foot throttle because it gives you 2 hands to spin the wheel and monitor fwd/rev while independently giving it gas. makes it really easy to trailer and dock/ beach in crowded areas.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I am putting a foot throttle in. Another newbie question I still leave the hand throttle in place to use for forward and reverse right?

The way mine worked was I disconected the throttle cable from the lever and ran it to the new foot pedal.
Badda bing , badda boom .....
Done .
