Ladies and gents, this non mechanically inclined, no construction skilled, but willing to take the time and learn boater is looking to jump balls deep into a project boat. I currently have a cruiser, and well.... looking to go faster (who wouldn't)! In a perfect world I'd like to pick up a hull that's complete minus motor and pump, but looking around there's no way that's in the budget right now. Anyhow back on track. I really like the look of bubble decks. I'm not vary familiar with many of the classic hulls other than Hallett, Howard, Southwind, Challenger, Kona, Tahiti. My question to everyone is when looking at older hulls (mid 70-80's), what should I be looking for? I'd like to get something in the 18-19' range, semi v, tunnel would be awesome, but that thing called cash gets in the way. Ive also been in contact with Paul at High flow dynamics, and he came up with a nice combo around 500hp. I didn't want anything bigger. I'm not a die hard chevy or ford fan, just want something easily maintained, reliable.
Originally I was going to swap out the 454 in my current boat for the 460 realizing I was going to have to swap everything out. So why not put all those parts into a project I thought. This is my current float that I'm keeping as my cruiser, and if the project doesn't work out. I'll have a bad ass 460 to throw in!
