The knowledge he gains right now, he will never forget, doesn't matter if he becomes a structural engineer when he gets older, he will never forget what he learns now...

My grandfather taught me to weld, solder, use a cutting torch, and fish for Steelhead, will never forget, that was over 35 years ago....

Never too young to learn skills, as you age you can turn those skills into something productive! The memories are great too!

I remember well the things my Grampa's and dad taught me. Wouldn't be so much into hot rods were it not for my uncles though. They were, and still are, all of them, certifiably nuts for some of the things they did. I'll never forget helping my uncle Ronnie (I was prolly 7 or 8 at the time), reinstall the tri-power intake on his '64 GTO. ( He had installed a set of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins ported 421 SD heads).

First time I used a torque wrench! (He was the craziest of them all, and the one who lives here in Scottsdale helping me with my armada).

Good job Dave, keep him in the loop! I know my son adores helping me on these boats, though 14 has his own ideas and they're good ones, we've never had that connection before all this. It's been a blessing!

Yeah, but you're a grampa now Tom! Let Josh do his thing and you spend time with that lil girl! That's what's important and why Dave is so excited! I'm excited(And me too. RJ and I never had a good connection, Becca and I do, but RJ's case is a lil different, the boats have been a blessing in that respect).

Hell I can see myself breaking out the 4 legged walker (on wheels) to get your granddaughter to set up my jet pump!

Well, more realistically, will be MY daughter getting YOUR granddaughter to do it, but still...... lol.

Yesterday my son experienced the art of crack detection for blocks/cranks/heads/etc.
actually magged parts and in fact found cracks...He loved that  :)

Today he learned how to use the dial calipers along with various types of dial mic's  ;D
He learned alot this week....He is only 9 and I will miss him dearly next week as he will be in summer camp.

He is my best friend  :'( :'( :'(

Just want to add a story about one of my first experiences in the garage with my Dad.

I don't remember this happening but, I love hearing my Dad tell the story of his then 4 year old son out in the garage "helping" him work on the family car. He had the door panel off putting in a new window gear. He always says "it was mechanical even none of the electric windows and regulators of today" and I love that part. :'( He was working on the inside of the door when he hears from a few feet away "come out of there you little son of a b!tc#!" which were the same exact words he himself had said not two minutes earlier. Fighting back the laughter he looked over and saw me with a screwdriver almost as big as I was, attempting to remove a screw from the door panel. He, fighting back the laughter said, "maybe  you should go help your Mother for a little while son" Anyway, one of my favorite stories and that is where it began for me. Over the years I became a half ass welder, mechanic, painter, carpenter, plumber etc. Expert at none but can make em all work. Thanks Pop!
