this might not mean anything to anyone but you might wanna read this if you boat up there saw this on another forum

they tried awhile back, I went to the meetings,... the end result was that they were do more studying of the area...the main concern was the safety of the other users of the river, and the amount of people that don't or won't obey the laws, too fast of speed was a big concern...people driving the wrong direction and not staying to the right.... people passing on the right with out slowing down to make sure the driver sees them..huge wakes swamping other boaters and kiackers .drivers oui....sooo... what I noticed over the holiday.... sheriff helo's filming the chaos.. they were just follow the boat up and down the river...the boats looking like if you dumped a bag of marbles on the kitchen floor... most of the boats headed up river were way too the left, while those headed down where every where... jet skies doing donuts and wallet racers on pin.... the speed from the slowest to the fastest was about 100 mpg..... so now, they got a whole bunch of studing done...this won't be good.... keep in mind that California is behind most of this...also I noticed... the topc bouys are almost to pirates, and the devils ebow bouys are 300 yards up river...anyone else remember when you didn't have to go wakeless under the bridge.....who decided to put all the bouys ....

Just did the run on Father's Day weekend, and all that seems about right. It was pretty stupid to be doing 40ish cruising 4 in a row, and to be passed on the left doing at least 70+ with out a care in the world about the boats coming head on.

I know at one point we got passed running two wide but 2 boats running two wide and two coming at us. Us and the head on boats slowed and each went right, and the passing boats just kept going like nothing was the matter. And we are required to more out of their way because they are faster.

I've been going to Havasu since I was an infant, now 40 yrs old... She ain't what she used to be, that's for sure. It looks like the original post had some cut off, but point made. There is a lot of truth to this and any boater with minimal experience can identify the idiots that do these things. Similar moves to freeway driving..
This is definitely not the place for jet boats, flat bottoms or other smaller floats any more. The average sized boat now is closer to 28' and can easily cruise at 50-60 mph over choppy water. If you want to enjoy this beautiful lake in a small boat, plan a trip from Sunday-Friday on an off weekend. We were out before 4th of July, on Thursday and Friday; we had ideal conditions with hardly any other boats. Saturday sucked.
If you think it's going to change, then be prepared for an industry to head down hill. Have you opened any boating magazine? Do you know how many manufacturers are in Havasu? Have you seen what they are pushing? Bigger, faster, more expensive. DCB's doing 175 mph... WTF?? Desert Storm hosted here.. YouTube any high performance boating and Havasu comes up.
When we're out there, I barely have a beer every 2 hours and am constantly looking around to make sure some boat isn't running me down. A lot of cops and coast guard, DUI check points (safety inspections they call them) and no wake zones. It's a trade off because there aren't too many other places as nice as this lake-and so dedicated to boaters. You can either fight an uphill battle or learn to deal with it.

Laws have been pushed thru congress by Paul Gosar, which in short , reads "any laws pertaining to the Havasu Wildlife Refuge, must be passed before congress."

San Bernardino County Sheriff cannot and will not be changing maritime law upon the river/Topock Gorge.

Neither can Mohave County Sheriff.

Shutting it down? Yes, It could happen, through an act of Congress.

Name an agency, any agency- they CANNOT just put buoys out there if they feel like it.They already tried that. And had their asses handed to them.
