Towing question

My currently have an 01 Tahoe, does alright. Nothing like my 06 Titan used to do but it gets the job done (however under geared it is). So it has some needed repairs that I'm not sure I want to pay for, additionally the old lady's car will be needing a transmission soon. So I have been looking for cars, and ran across a Ford Flex. Did some research and found they have a towing package you can get on the awd ecoboost model, that would be rated at 4500 lbs.

My major concern is how much it will suck towing my mini day southwind up the grapevine or cajon pass? I've never towed with anything smaller than the Tahoe. Has anyone towed up hills with a flex?

^What he said, not something I would want to test.  Brakes is usually where most of the concern would on a borderline rig, you may climb the but coming down can be another story.

Yeah, I hate climbing slow but if needed it has to be done. I was mostly concerned with the downhill also. The flex has fairly good sized brakes and the trailer has brakes on it (I'd have to have them gone through and connected, but they are there).
I just don't know anyone that has towed with one, and around town or the river where there isn't hills is two different animals. Haha

Why not go with the f150 eco boost same towing rate as the v8. Plenty of power and get alot better gas mileage than the v8. Ive been looking to get one soon myself

Yea ive seen ecoboosts going from 22-30k for a used one.

I bought a Flex this time last year and do not regret it one bit! Bought a SEL, non ecoboost fwd and it tows our Carrera to the river just fine. That V-6 has plenty or torque. I pull the Chiriaco summit at 65 in 4th great, ac on in the middle of summer an it didn't flinch. Also the 2nd row of seats is huge and has more leg room than anything else. For the price, compared to a new Tahoe/Suburban or Expedition was what sold us. We're talking almost half the cost!  Go drive one, ya might be surprised. And I don't even like Ford's lol

I'll add, our Flex tows better and is more comfortable than my old lifted suburban, maybe not the best comparison, but this was my other choice to tow w/ before we bought it.

I tow with a Ford Edge with the 3.5 ltr ne complaints as far as of power just make sure ur trailer brakes work well

I towed an 18 ft. Horizon up and over Chiriaco many times with a 4 banger 22R.  Two and four wheel drives from the mid 80's and it was never a problem.  You won't be the fastest but you won't be embarrassed either.  Faster than many moho's.  Stopping with the 2WD was a little iffy feeling but pulling down the highway was ok at trailer legal speeds.

Does anybody remember to tow at trailer legal speeds?  Uh huh . . .

I have a '14 explorer sport with the eco boost tows awesome and still get 18 mpg with the boat behind it
