« on: June 25, 2007, 10:08:58 AM »
Since new oils..Valvoline..Pennzoil..Lack the amounts of zinc to properly luibricate older flat tappet motors such as an older jet boat motor...What kinds, if any, of oils additives do you guys run? I just got ta' thinkin' this since I have been puttin' a bottle of Chevy EOS in to supplement the motor in my hotrod....

I run Royal Purple and have been very happy. I have heard and seen stories where people have had oil pump pickups fall off etc. and run the boat back to the dock (up to 1 hour) with no ill effects on the bearings etc. i run it in all my cars except my workvan which I run Castol High Mileage and Lucas oil stabilizert has 167,000 miles and no engine work so far. Just a starter brakes etc.

All the newer oils including castrol are not comin' with the same amount of zinc...

Good article.  Workhorse Custom Chassis uses the Chevrolet 8.1L in there motorhome chassis and has stated that they don't want owners/shops to use the 15w/40 diesel oil in there engines due to problems with rings  ???

I'm going to use the straight 30wt oil when I change my oil this next time.  If I had more time I would change it before this next trip because I don't know whats in it (oil was like new when I picked up the boat).

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I just went down and picked up some EOS supplement at my Chevy dealer...It's a little bottle and I just add it in with my regular oil...It's says it's for cam break-in but it started out as a supplement and has zinc and everything else the new oils are lacking...
