Update on my mom
« on: July 08, 2014, 02:26:03 AM »
'Thankfully we're at a good place now, the physical therapy staff is awesome, mom (although very grumpy about therapy sometimes) is doing really well. She's even actually walked (fsck you trauma doctor that told me she had a 5% chance of meaningful recovery). My sister is back in town and I think shes doing a lot to help my mom recover.

She's much more lucid, we had a nice conversation today about whether I was going to be up late or go to bed because I was tired. She can read a few things...which is really sad because this is a woman who was a dean of English at a huge university here in SD. (ends in SU). We've had lots of visitors, mostly from her past life as a professor, some family.

I'm kind of surprised, when you're in these facilities you see tons of patients, and no family visiting them, I really feel bad for some of the folks in there, it's like they've been abandoned. I couldn't imagine leaving, disowning, not talking too someone from my family in their greatest time of need.

Like I said though, on the plus side, mom is doing awesome. I hope we'll have her back home in a few months or so, that's a new thing for me.

That is great news.  Things can only get better from here on out.  Family support and constant contact can mean a lot at times like this but it seems like you have that part handled.  Tell here we are all pulling for her.

Good to hear. Hope your mom continues to do great.

Can't wait for that good news myself for my little girl.
