I can't help but make a post on the prices I see for some of the used parts for sale on this site. It seems like people want there weight in gold.  I've bought used basset headers in brand new condition and motor mounts for a big block chevy all for $350. A set of basset ford big block headers for $150 in very good unburnt condition, dooley oil pan with windage tray for $50 for the ford. Buyers beware ther are deals out there.

yeah, there are some high prices on this site...as well as many others.... but if you notice, when people are charging an arm and a leg for a used part, it is usually for sale for a long time...causing them to drop the price.

also, keep in mind there are a bunch of hagglers on this site as well as any site....everyone wants shit for free and then they want you to pay for shipping too.....so some people post prices high to make room for negotiations....if you think a price is too high, PM the seller with an offer.

I'm sure your post was in good spirit, but this is HotBoat type stuff; most folks on here are big boys who know the value of parts (for the most part).
For every poster asking too much, there are 2 who have good deals and want to help fellow boaters; I personally have been the recipient of FREE stuff from good folks on this site who just wanted to help me out; there was one instance where one member sold a part to another member (that I was going to deliver) and he just simply dropped the price by $25, after the deal was negotiated, just to help the guy out.

I need a BBC jet boat oil pan, $50 is my offer, but you're going to have to wait for the cash as my disability check hasn't come in yet.
I also need a discontinued Rooster Booster, I'll trade my Berkeley Droop Snoot straight across for it.


Just because you found parts for sale from people who had no idea what they were worth, or parts that were owned by people who were rich enough to not care what the parts were worth, doesn't neccessarilly mean that the prices you won't pay aren't what the parts are actually worth.    And before I get a few haters responses, I'm one of those folks who knows what "most" parts are worth and asks for the prices accordingly. No offense taken. You can also check my feedback, as none of my feedbacks have ever been withdrawn.   

       

Didn't make the post to talk bad about anybody. I have recieved help from people on the site and am very greatful. Intention was to let people know there are great deals out there if they look hard enough. Didn't intend to offend anyone, and apoligize if i did. I saved hundreds of dollars on my last perchase because of help from people on the site.

I figured your post had good intentions; it's just that I believe this site is different from the others (even with the influx after the HotBoat debacle); I think the vast majority of folks here are looking out for fellow boaters.

It doesn't matter if it your sweat and labor, or homemade tamales, or heads for a BBC.  Things are only worth what someone will pay for it.  Google sells for $600 a share and they produce absolutely nothing that you can hold in your hand.  Plenty of folks out their buying it tho.  Tried to sell a house last year?  Bet this year you would be hard pressed to sell it for the same price as a year ago but its the same house right?

As River Dad expressed prices are continually on the climb ,We dealers get price "changes" almost weekly from many of our suppliers ,some times we hand these down,some times we absorb them as "cost of doing business" reducing our profits .Anything chrome ,nickel, bronze ,aluminum or stainless has gone up exponentially over the last few years (blame China) . Thats life and thats business . As some one said re used part prices "they are what they are" theres occasional super good deals out there ! from what I can observe here the prices folks ask are generally fair if you dont want to pay the asking price thats your choice .just my 02  Tom
