Because of a big strike at that time the 1969 body style Camaro production ran until early 1970.  I don't think the 454 was ever offered in the first gen Camaro body.

I use to own a 69 Camaro and still have a lot of literature.

The Camaro for '69 started half way thru the productioin year due to tooling changes so technicaly (sp) they're all '69 1/2s. There was a Z-L1 427 Camaro offered that year. It can be quickly identified by a color matched urethane front bumper and rear bumper gaurds.

OK one more Q.  My buddy wants a 4 gear to replace his 3 speed because he is turning too many RPMs on the freeway.  Will the 4 gear lower it much if at all? 

No, not at all. Top gear in each trans is 1:1. He would need to change to a numerically lower rear axle ratio to bring his cruise rpms lower.

The first Yenkos were not a chevy factory production and only came with a 427 (dealer modified) until late '68 when the 427 were factory installed (was kept a secret) and then only delivered to Yenko Chevrolet.

The COPO's were also only 427 factory installs (started in '69) and the very first ones were delivered to only Yenko Chevrolet, after that any dealer could order them.

So, no...if its a YENKO/COPO with a 454 its a fake or modified(and what idiot would modify either of those works of art )

Your correct that the 454 wasnt sold until 1970 but the 427 shares the same stroke as 454 but differnt crank, etc. But NO 69 came FACTORY with a 454, PERIOD!

I was surprised to read how many people know the dealio on '69 Camaro's, 454's, copo's, and 427's. I thought I was the only one that stored that kind of worthless information. Oh yea, 197phukin4 was the year that unleaded came out.

It would be going in behind a 383 w/ appx 400 hp garage queen that only gets driven on Sunday mornings kinda thing.

Vette 7 speed is a pos. Good for anemic small blocks under 300hp. It is a crappy 4 speed with an overdrive unit built into the output shaft casing. Better off getting a muncie or better yet a hemi 4 speed and adding on a gear vender's od unit. A cheaper way to go is with the t-5 if you don't have much hp or fork out the cash for the Tremec TKO 500 or 650. Or if you have gigabucks, drop in a Lenco. Nothing looks as nice as 4 sticks sticking up through the trans tunnel!!!
