What do you guys think of this Daycruiser?
« on: July 19, 2017, 07:25:01 AM »
I'm a newbie, and I'm looking for my first jetboat.  I've done some lurking around on this forum for a bit, and it's clear you guys know your business.  So I'd like to know your opinions on this 76 Fantasy Mini Daycruiser.

https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/boa/d/fantasy-jet-boat/6208618811.html

The positives from my view are that it's fairly clean and ready for the water.  The larger size also seems nice for my family (wife and daughter).  It's got the original gel coat without much wear on it.

The interior has some wear, but there are no cracks and very little sunburn.  On the negative side, this boat has a Jacuzzi YJ pump.  I've seen a bunch of posts saying to stay away from YJ pumps because of parts and performance and so on.  I was told that this YJ was improved with Dominator parts, but I'm not sure what that means, or if it is any great benefit.  It needs a bimini top and new tires on the trailer too.

I'd love to hear your opinions.  Should I look into this boat more, or be patient and wait for something with a Berkeley or Jacuzzi WJ pump?

The YJ is an axial flow pump, meaning that it is basically a propeller inside the pump. It'll never be a performance pump. Instead, it was made to move heavy boats. The Jacuzzi WJ is a mixed flow which is similar to the Berkeley we know and love.

However!

Since it has the Dominator energizer kit it has been switched to a mixed flow pump which is what you want. Dominator parts are readily available as well.

Personally I'd keep looking.
The Olds / Jacuzzi combo alone would have me walking away and on top of that Fantasy was not known as a high quality boat.
In the future, the resale value isn't there. $4500.00 is a lot for that setup.
Just my opinion.

Agreed, if you are looking for a day cruiser this looks like a better option:

I would also keep looking at that price you can find a better set up. But if it's the boat YOU want there is an ass for every seat as the old saying goes 😋

Well I'm still looking around and I found this one.  Thoughts?  I know it's a bit smaller, but I like that it has a Berkeley pump, and I know Ford motors.

I think that a decent buy just to play devil's advocate I don't like that it is a pretty large heavy boat on a light single axle trailer and it's very tough to see the overall condition by pictures you will have to be the judge there. I have driven miles and miles looking at boats after seeing pictures just to find out it is completely different in person. I will say the 460 Berkeley is a solid combo. The Chevy guys will debate that all day but all the boats I have owned, I think it's 6 now, have all been 460 with a Berkeley.
