IF you're running a Comp Jet boat, or any circle race boat, it helps to lessen the amount of water you get into your carb. If you're not racing it, then

Two things here:
"Well I guess I'm gay then" it's about time YOU figured that out  ;D :-* ;D

"I was on mead I took a couple nasty waves" I thought Lake Mead was always smooth as glass?  ::)

I run my scoop backwards; one for the spray, two - it was explaned to me that a standard carb. was ment to run in undisturbed air, thirdly you will receive ram effect at speeds of around 100 plus - no worries with my boat

I have been told that a good reason to run your scoop backwards is to do away with the USCG approved spark arrestor.  If the scoop is facing forward you must run a spark arrestor, if the scoop is facing towards the stern of the boat then the law allows you to run a normal air filter (keeping backfires or flames from coming at passengers/driver).  Kinda makes sense to me.

This is an interesting thread though, I'd like to know the true reasons behind it.  I guess since my "doghouse" came with the air passage facing backwards from the factory... and I don't race my boat... That I must be gay...   Hmmm...

I've also been told that guys that crack gay jokes at other obviously straight men are only in denial of their own gayness.  Maybe they just fantasize about it in their free time, which gives them the ideas for the jokes in the first place...  Hmmm...

The thing worse than a Hydro static lock (water on top a piston) it one that happens "under way" If your unfortunate to have your scoop take a big "drink" from say a wave over the bow ,roost or ?? while running it wont just kill the motor it will likely blow out the sides of a cylinder wall ,block or bend a rod or ?? water doesn't compress ,and the force has to go somewhere , this is even worse on a forced induction motor thats why lots of blower mtrs run backwards scoops Tom

Your scoop is not backwards , It's facing the front of the engine! :screwy:
