Yea something like the 8" do I need to also get a longer shaft ? Because wouldn't the longer bezel move the shaft adapter and shaft further away from the helm ?

Looks like it bolts on to the 3/4"tapered shaft. Looks like you have the old school square shaft on your helm. May need to upgrade that old steering system to the teleflex rack and pinion unit, too.
What steering wheel are you using?

I hope it goes without saying, but going to say it.
That dash needs to be redone with new wood and glass to restore the strength before an extension can be installed.
Otherwise it's just unsafe.

No, not at all.
There should be a piece of plywood backing that dash up, that should really be replaced. Then once the new wood is laminated in, fresh holes drilled through the repaired fiberglass.
