ok, It must not be a jet boat thing   And for the not me guys, what kind of boat do you have?

Every boat I have ever owned came home as a pile of trash that made people say "what are you going to do with that?" so nothing I own was ever worth anything substantial. That's why I am always putting back together the boats, if the taxman ever did show up maybe he would give me pity money

Is this something that your tax person says you need to pay? 

Most of the stuff I found on Google about luxury taxes for boats was something started in 1991 and stopped a short time later only for boats over $100,000 and only paid at time of purchase.

It sounds like your getting screwed 

I pay a unsecured property tax on the boat, which goes to the San Diego County Tax Collector. It's down to 54.00 this year for the Advantage.

i dont even insure mine..haha

i pay 84.00 on the 86 eliminator that is 26ft if size matters or is it by age or even weight like autos fees

I used to pay 30.00 for my old jet boat. the new boat is reg. in AZ. I think it has to do with the area you live in.

Thought it was interesting, so did a search, found last luxury tax info was about a repeal of the law in regards to boats and planes, the limit was $100,000 for boats, (That means I can put over $97,000 in my boat!) any way, you might call you tax guru, because as far as California is concerned, it seems you didn't need to pay it, unless it is a county use thing?

luckly for me, they go by what I paid for my Tahiti. And I genuinely paid $200 for boat and trailer . So no luxury tax

It's based off of registration...not insurance....isnt it?  You guy's dont even have liability or medical insurance on your boat for your ski'ers and rider's?
