Park Moabi Boating and Camping Trip July 2nd to the 6th
« on: February 03, 2009, 02:07:17 PM »
We are trying to put together another boating/camping trip at Park Moabi which is just south east of Needles California. There is no registration list and this is not a scheduled event just a boating/camping trip with friends. If you are interested in joining us at Park Moabi PM me and let me know.  We will be camping at site 15 on the Riverfront Peninsula side.  I have rented six hookup camping spots of the ten that were available.  There are currently only two hookup camping spots left.  So if you are interested, let me know as soon as possible so I can give you my information for payment.  As of Jan. 27th, 2009 there are no other available sites on the peninsula side.  However, there are camping sites available on the launch ramp side (non-peninsula).  If you want to camp on the launch ramp side you can make reservations by calling Park Moabi at 760-326-3831.  Also, you don’t have to be camping with us to enjoy our company, so if you staying local and just want to come down and hang out on the beach with us you're more than welcome.

The Colorado River Park Moabi Camping Trip will be from July the 2nd (arriving Thursday) thru the 6th (leaving Monday). The park charges $35 per RV for sites with hookups and $22 per night for sites without hookups. This price is per night for four nights Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a total cost of $140 per RV with hookups and $88 without hookups. Park Moabi has charged me $88 (four nights at $22) plus a reservation fee to reserve each camping spot. After you have sent me a check for $88 and once you get to Park Moabi they will charge you the balance. For example, I am getting hookups so my total charge will be $140 minus the $88 that I put down to reserve the camping spot which equals $52. My understanding is that tow vehicles and boats / trailers are included in that price but other vehicles will be charged an additional $22 per vehicle once you arrive at Park Moabi.

Camp site number 15 has the 2nd biggest beach and the most room for RV’s.  The site also has two entrances and plenty of boat parking.  There is 200' of river frontage (beach). Park Moabi also has unlimited tent camping if you prefer to tent camp.

I think it was a couple years ago.  One of the Rangers even brought the wood from another campsite.  However, we had a fire on Memorial Day on the launch ramp side and the Ranger put it out for us.  So I am not sure if it depends on the campsite or if they have changed their rules.  Trust me though ....we wont have a fire in July. ;D

So does this mean your going Brad?

Brad is right, there are two launch ramps, the one at the end of the Peninsula (about a 3-5 minute tow) and the other at the Marina (about a 12-15 minute tow).  If you have a 4 X 4 it still can be pretty difficult to launch at the campsite.  We usually launch at the at the end of the Peninsula but Jeremie likes to show off.  However, he usually end up having to find someone to pull him out.

You would be surprised, the year before last someone a campsite away lit a firework off and bailed. This was about 9:30 at night. The ranger was about 2 campsites away the other way. First off was weird he was out that late, but anyway he swore up and down it was us that lit it, we didnt, and also questioned us about a fire pit that was left there from somone before we got there, thats when we learned about the fine. Who knows he may have been blowin smoke up our arses.  But anyway that was a nightmare for us, had to go to the front office the next day, to try and plead our case and not get kicked out. Made it through that barely and the main people on the reservation got blacklisted for a year :screwy:

I hear you, the fire pit picture was late October and it was kind of chilly.  Maybe they don't bother us because we bring our own fire boat just incase.

I love those pics.

Don't be afraid to bring the family.  On our first camping trip a couple years ago we had a Pirate theme night with a pinata for the kids.  I think we might do another theme night on this trip.

I thought I would post some interesting pictures of some of the things that have happened while we were at Park Moabi.

The following is a couple pictures of a sea plan that was trying to do a touch and go.  However, sadly enough the landing gear was still down when the pilot went to make his touch and go and it caused the plan to flip over into the water.  This happened right in front of our camp.  Luckly, we had a couple people in our group that had their boats still in the water and helped these people get to the shore.  Though I was told by the owner that the plan was probably going to be total loss everyone that was in the plan was ok except for some minor cuts.

This is the sea plan the next day after they recovered it from the water.
