The avi vs the more north casinos?

I hear more talk about the avi vs staying more up north Laughlin?  Is the river better down south? Less jet skis?  Not so chop?  I had to ask

The short answer is YES!

Less rentals, less wake barges, generally better water conditions, the AVI cove gives you an area (out of the current) to hang out that isn't so isolated.  The biggest downfall to the AVI is the poor trailer parking layout and the launch ramp dropping you into the current.

On big weekends keep your distance. Generally less of a disaster, but quickly growing to be full of PWC...

I have grown up going here and losing interest in the Avi, due to the crowd that goes here now

For the best river experience stay in Needles and launch at Needles Marina or Jack Smith-both great places. Like I said, this is for the best river experience, lodging is a secondary concern. The best places to stay in town are the Best Western (2371 Needles Hwy
Needles, CA  92363) and its sister hotel, Rio Del Sol. Also some ok places to eat nearby.

Laughlin is way to crowded for me. But i stay there most of the time due to comped rooms, but drive to jack smith to lauch.

Up north, 1000's of jet skis, and the da**ed casino-I-own-the-river-boats...
Further south, 35' cats at 75+ mph, because they can.

I stay south of BHC community park, and north of the AVI, in shallow waters :thumbup:

Just went to the Avi for the first time this weekend didn't have the best experience tons of jet skis the launch ramp sucks so if your not very experienced don't attempt it, the staff at the Avi and beach area are real cool though they drag the beach area every morning that's a plus and just watch out for low spots and keep checking when they are releasing water from the Davis dam

We just got back from Avi.  We got hit with a storm on Saturday.  River was nasty.  Sunday river was all clear and we made the best of it.  The launch ramp sucks if you don't know what your doing.  Way to many jet ski's off the
Avi's beach.  We headed up river and was very nice and peaceful.  Good clean water and this was around 12:00 1:00.  Water level was nice.  Was able to burn both tanks with a gallon to spare lol.  Staff was pretty good to us.  All in all not do bad of a weekend.

It all depends on when you go. The ramp at AVI does suck. It drops you right into the current and before you know it you and your boat are drifting fast down current waiting for your pump to prime. The Sandy beach is nice. If you get to hot you can always leave your boat tied up on beach and run into the casino for a cold one. Up river in Laughlin is packed with PWC. There is also a 150 yard no wake zone in front of the harrahs casino.

If you decide on big bend be careful of the water level coming out of the launch cove , there is a shallow part  that will jam your hull go real Slow  till you clear it . I had to wait until 10 am before the water level was high enough t for my boat to clear . Be cautious !!!

Best part bout AVI is they have their own beach where you can beach your boat. Laughlin casinos; none. And only one public boat launch near Riverside Casino. Thats all I got.

I have to agree with some of the other posts. The ramp at the Avi sucks, personally. I always fire as the wofe backs me into the water to stay out of he rocks. Getting back on the trailer is tricky.
Thanks to all the other SCJB boys, they've made it easy. Always someone to help

Yup when you come off the trailer you have to punch it to stay off the rocks, then when you load you have to power into the current just to stay lined up"

  So, I have a 21' Daycruiser with a sail, err bimini top, and have never had a problem with the current or the wind. I (actually the wife) puts the trailer in a bit shallow and I 'beach' the boat on the trailer, hop out and grab the boat while she backs in another few feet, and crank it up,...Easy Peasy

The Riverside is usually a bunch of rookie pwc's,  And at Davis camp 'best jets' has the right of way, SERIOUSLY, there's signs (PWC rental) Yeah, Right. I paid, I'm next in line... :screwy:

All the other rental co's use BHC Community park. And take their time, and mine, and use the dock as their own (beach?)...for hours

Lazy Harry's can be kinda skinny @ the entrance to the river, I've walked it over the rock bar a few times, and had to rescue a Merc once, yeah, don't follow me, you won't make it...

Jack smith you need reverse to launch, (yeah, don't ask me how I know) But Needles marina you don't...and they have gas.
