Gotta couple ideas for trailers.
« on: November 01, 2009, 09:46:10 PM »
Sooo

I'm sitting here and banging away at the keyboard for some work crap.

I just came up with a cool idea for some guide on bunks for a trailer and made a model to see if it would work, well, it works

So, I guess what I want you guys to help me out with is, what's next? I don't know if every boat in America needs one of these badboys, but a boat that gets launched in the wind or on the river would be a necessity.  ;) An added benefit would be it will clamp down on the boat when in transit.  :sly:

Any ideas would be appreciated, I will be building one of these in the next couple weeks or maybe longer  :-\ so no real rush...

I will say that the design will allow the user to launch and retrieve the boat by ones self.

I have another idea that could work but I have not ironed out the details (couldn't do it from my kitchen table LOL)

BTW, Thanks for the inspiration Ron (76 Bonneville)

OK, you HAD me on the guide on bunks. Anyone who's seen me trailer my boats know, LORD YES, I need them and a backup set for every boat I own,  >:D

But I'm not quite sure if what MY interpretation is what YOUR interpretation is?

OK, without giving too much up  :sly:

I used to launch and retrieve our boat in a 10 MPH river and have done it in the wind and almost always by myself.

I have taken the information from what I know and used it to come up with a helper that will be very user freindly and fully automatic, taking out the human element, which is never a bad thing...Knowhatamean? ;)

Basically it will work like a cradle that will grab the boat and guide it down to the trailer dead center every time. But will virtually be invisible (not like those ugly ass guide ons Cabela's sells  :P ) when the boat is on the trailer and will require no maintenance. Tall order I know, but still....

Well, working 50-60 hours a week does kinda keep progress slow, I had the parts cut on a water jet, I need one of those badboys

I need to get the old mans boat out of storage for the year next week, so I figured that would be a good place to start...

After drawing it up a while back, I have already made numerous changes and think I am at a good starting point, My seat frames are done and that has taken any extra time I have had, along with bathroom plumbing repairs and life kicking my ass... :screwy:

Pics to follow soon....It's raining here again right now... :banghead:

I'm curious what you have going on here, Got to be better then this Cave Mans method of tying a vine(rope) to the dug out (boat) and other to the carriage (trailer).  ;D You might be on to a revolutionary new boat loader system that becomes a law in Cal some day (Believe you have stranger ones already) and become the richest coolest (You pay for crazy parties)  8) jet boater in the world, Hey I'm just saying..        .    :) ;D    Roy

This sounds like a good idea, Glenn...  Anxious to see what the final result is.  Surely you would have many interested buyers just on this site alone.  and...  like Roy said...

I know I hate putting the boat on the trailer when we go out on the Sac river near the airport.  Also the reason I will never launch at B & W in the Delta, instead I go the extra few miles to Orwood's.  Also all the So cal peeps with the Colorado.

Go for it!  I'm in!

No magnets, but a cantilever type theory.... :sly:

I made some parts last week, need to do some more welding and figure out some brackets, trying to do this "bolt-on", but lack of "spare time" is killing me, I have about 30 projects in progress......I thought work would really slow down, well, fortunately, it didn't, haven't been this busy in years... :screwy:

simple...as soon as you get near the trailer, flip a switch to activate electro magnets next to stringers that run off of your dual batteries and wala...boat is stuck to the trailer.  Turn switch off, tow back to campsite, drink beer.

Sounds like a blind drunk man could do that!  If that's the case then any of us would be able to trailer the boat in one shot!  :banghead: Count me in!
