Swing away trailer tongue

I just measured and its short. My boat trailer

so swing away, how much and where do i get one?

Why is it every time i type in "swing away tongue" all i get is the swing in jack for the trailer?

try using the word "coupler" instead of "tounge" ...also get creative with "swing away"...the link above i posted called it a "fold-away coupler"

or better yet, google "trailer parts"....then check out the results' selection of couplers.

After doing some searching myself to see what else is out there, it appears theres only 1 company that makes a bolt on fold away coupler and that is Folton (see link above).

And after doing more searching, it looks like eastern marine has the best deal at $109. Everywhere else i looked was about $130, even ebay.

Other options you might want to look into is having one custom made. You can buy a coupler for cheap and buy yourself the desired length of box tube you want your tounge to extend.....a few aluminum plates and a jig saw with some nice sping loaded pins and make a visit to your favorite metal fabricator.

I just want to buy a kit and have it installed. I dont want to try to make it fit or fabricate it.

But the ones i see above are only weighted at gross 3500 pounds. I have a tandem now and want a little higher gross weight, or is the 3500 gross weight normal? I really dont know what weight is normal and i dont want my chit coming of my truck on the highway or sumthin because i was CHEAP.

I see these on trailers all the time, but i cant find the one i want or have seen. Im going to Holiday Rv and Marine and talk to them. As much as they rip people off they might be able to give me a clue

most of the ones you see are custom jobs done by trailer shops.

If it was me, I would take it somewhere to have it welded up. Bolting holes through a box tube like that makes me nervous.

and if weight is a concern, folton makes a 3"x4" version thats rated for 5,000lbs

What kind of boat do you have? I've got a 19' Miller jet with a 460 Ford and a Berk pump and I'll bet the whole thing isn't 2000 lbs. Most of your weight will be sitting over the tandem axles or just behind so the 3500 lbs is more than you should need. I think that's class 3 ratings.

Brad, I agree about drilling box tubing. I'd go for the kit and then weld and not bolt to the frame, but then I don't know that I really trust something called "Break Away"

It congers up an accident waiting to happen. Just my 2 cents worth. Greg

Weld and bolt. However I've always been told that the capability of your equipment should double the capacity of your load when possible. My uncle was a trucker before he died and he always said that. Remember your trailer probably weighs 1200 pounds. My old Tandem weighed 1400 and it was custom made for my 18' Caribbean. You're getting dangerously close to the max on that tongue. I'll take pictures of my swing away if you'd like some ideas for fabbing them up.

So, since I moved back to a "normal" size garage I am looking into the option of modifying my tongue. I have an A-Frame tongue, but where I would need to hinge or plate for a bolt on setup would be before the 3 beams come together.

I used to know a guy that had a setup like that where they plated it before the A came together and then plated it on what was cut off and he had 4 bolts that locked it all together. Towed fine, no problems.

I have looked at all the kits and none of them work for an A frame, only box tube.

My trailer tongue just comes off. Super easy setup and I am a little more comfortable with it than the swing away. I will take some pics tonight to show how its done. The best part is there was about $25 in parts to buy and not hard to do.
