« on: December 07, 2007, 05:14:19 PM »
Well I posted the boat on CL last night. I have alot of response for 1 day, but read this email...

Sounds like a foreign scam or maybe just a slow guy I dont know yet. He will probably want me to take a $5k cashiers check cash it mail him the remainder of $3500 and wait for him to pickup the boat....

I bet its South Africa to boot.....

Complement of the season seller, I saw ur advert on craiglsist which suit what have been wanting to buy. I want you to get back to me with the following information concerning the item...
1...Is the item still available
2..Whats the latest condition
3..Email me with picture of the item
4..what is your price for the item..
5..Method of payment is a postal money order/certified cashiers check.
Get back to as soon as possible so as to know the next step to take.

My dad just started doin the craigslist thing and he asked me what to watch out for....

I told him on simple thing that covers all basis's:

Only do transactions as if you were holding a garage sale. If some guy came to your garage sale and tried to say he would have his buddy give you a money order for more then what you're asking ....and from a foreign country, would you? Then what makes it ok to do it on the internet?

All deals should be in person and in cash.

that happened to me about 2 years ago. i was selling a lincoln i had and we agreed on a price of 4k. he wired 1k into an account i had made just to sell this car. turns out the 1k was stolen out of someone else's account that he had the info for. i was held liable for the money and couldnt have a bank account for about a year because Wells Fargo put me on a thing called check systems, that all banks check for your records when you try to open an account. like brad said, cash only and if its any kind of check take the guy with you to the bank to cash it!

I had one guy send me a check for $25,000 for a $500 trailer and then threatened to have the FBI show up at my house for not cashing it .

I just sold a bicycle on cl, talk to people on the phone first, try to set up a meeting with them. I like to go to them personally, I dont trust people and dont want them checking out my shit.
