I am more than likely going to be changing jobs in the near future. I have a vision of where I want to be in 5 years and my current employer is not in that vision...

Has anyone noticed the amount of people that pretty much have to tell you what it is they do for the company? I have news for those folks, if you have to tell me what it is you do....I don't need you. ;)...

There are more worthless people keeping their jobs right now just because they're holding the companies hostage..I'ts crazy. :screwy:

That's funny Glenn. Let me throw a different spin on that though!

I was a district manager for Radio Shack then Babbages. Etc, now Gamestop, for a total of around 15 years. I been with Home Depot for 3 years as I missed retail. I know the game, play it well. And I do know my job, and like it.

We had a BIG visit (store walk) all the other management was worried sick about with the District manager and the Regional Vice President a couple of months ago. When I met the guy, he said " I'm blah blah blah, your Regional Vice President, and what do you do for us?" (Guy obviously had no idea who I was).

I replied (To which made my peers, boss and bosses boss cringe,) "I'm Ray, I'm the Specialty Sales Manager, and am incharge of anything special order, custom or installed, where we are, year to date, somewhere north of 180 or so % above our plan, and 115 or so % above comp figures, in THIS economy, 85% (Improvement) above gross margin plan and............ what exactly do YOU do for us again? I never heard the name before."

Dead silence and walked away, lol. My bosses later were fearing repercussions from that little statement. I basically outlined that if THAT happened, I'd own the guys job. I ALWAYS knew who my performers were, when I was in a similar position to this guy. This putz didn't have a clue who I was or even where my store was at numbers wise. A pompous ass, and I merely pointed that out to him in case he didn't already know.

It's a running joke across the Phoenix market now to keep me away from any important visitors, lol. I find my way outta it, lol.

I can totally relate.....

We have sales people and their job is to well...sell  ;D

So we had a special called meeting because sales are slow (econmy is stale as hell), so this sales manager is in this meeting along with about 5 "Blue Shirts" wondering what plan of action he had and needing some direction on where to go from here.

So this numbskull doushe bag, while sitting all kicked back in his chair, says "we are right at where we are supossed to be". You could have heard a termite fart, no one said one word.

He comes back and says that have already made their numbers for the year and have no real game plan in place to change anything, says we have had more than $800,000 of "new" buisness and that we are way beyond our goals...Same termite fart, so I say to him in a very calm quite voice (which is a bit out of character for me), "so the $1.25 Million in account base we lost does not come off the top?"...

Same termite fart...."Well we did not lose those accounts due to sales", he says...I was sure to point out that more than 3/4 of the "new accounts" he landed were existing accounts that just downsized into smaller facilities and we were able to save some of the service accounts at the new smaller building :banghead:

So we really lost twice what we gained...He just says "you obviously don't know how it works"...

I literally just excused myself and walked out of the conference room, mainly because I was going to tear his juguler vein from his neck and tie it around his balls........

Exactly! And we fret over why Circuit City went Belly up (Best buy will too, only a matter of a few months), Linens and things, etc etc etc.  I'm done, lol Point made I think on the retail end of it.

If you guys lived in Chandler, you'd see what customer service was, as I DEMAND it. Too bad we got too big for our own britches and went with everyone else on the "let's just pull in cash as fast and however we can" bandwagon.  Our only salvation is that the founding fathers made SURE there was plenty of cash. We're still liquid, there's no other retailer, save Wal-Mart, that is.

There's also this. And this is just a general perspective. I see more and more everyday customers wanting us to solve their problems. Much more and more they're dealing with City/state codes, serious issues where they need or should get an licensed and bonded expert, and they expect, and DEMAND on occasion, Home Depot to tell them how to do it themselves and sell them what they need to do it. In some cases we can help, in most, no. Can I tell you what Electrical code is to wire a 60 amp sub-panel into your shed in Maricopa AZ? Yeah, but am I gonna open myself up to the liabilty when YOU'RE DOING THE WORK, HELL NO!!? Can I tell you how deep you need to run irrigation lines under bermuda grass (Well I can. but won't).

There's Customer Service, then there's lawsuits and retaliation. Everyone's feeling the pinch and they're all trying to save a buck.

I get it, but getting mad at us for not telling you ver batim how to do it, is just wrong. Everyone's brother in law is a lawyer, and you burn your house down, are you gonna blame yourself, or call him and sue Home Depot "Because you did what we told you to do" When you may or may not have. That is why there are licensed and bonded contractors out there who are also starving.

Just my .02

LOL, no you read that wrong...I'm talking about people you work with that their place within the company isn't self evident because they either A, suck at their job, or B, their job is such bullshit that they could miss 6 weeks of work and no one would even realize they're gone...

I am a union employee and have a loyalty that stops with them, not the contractor I work for, they could give two shits about how I feel about the company...

Was not referring to people in general..Sorry if it came off that way.

And when I was talking about holding companies hostage, I was refering to one particular individual at my shop where he is the most insubordinant A-hole you ever met, goes above my head to complain about processes and gets a raise for it because he threatened to walk and take his 3 customers he works for with him... :banghead:  :banghead:

Lol so does PHX. (A real one at least) Shopped three yesterday looking for a deep groove alt pulley, none had one, and none carry the Joe Gibbs oil I use. Basically none had anything for Fords at all. Methinks we need to start our own chain..........hmmmmm.

Yeah, Loper's. They have more, newer parts at Pep boys than they have there. I mean EMPTY, 4 guys standing around, 2 small gondola racks of hanging stuff about 8 feet long, and piles of crap everywhere with 1/4" of dust on it, about a 1500 sq foot showroom! Some speed shop, lol.

I guess this economy's affecting everyone, lol.
