Morons abound...
« on: November 03, 2010, 11:59:12 AM »
So check this shit out.....

One of my apprentices from my old job calls me and asked a couple of very intelligent questions.......

I know for a fact that I taught him very well everything he was talking and asking about, so I fired back with a few questions of my own.

When he answers them, I find out right away that he was being told he was taught totally wrong by his foreman (whom I do not know) and he had to do things "his way".

Now, some of you who know me personally know that there is no way in god's green earth I let this BS stand, so it was time to make a phone call... >:D

I get a hold of this smart ass and asked him what his qualifications were, this was a indoor air quality problem and the methods this douche wanted his apprentice to use to try and solve a carbon monoxide (CO) issue in a school was going to kill somebody... :screwy:

So I asked him a few questions pertaining to what I already knew about the situation...What a cocky know-it-all prick... >:(

After speaking to him for about 10 minutes, he says "who the fock are you to tell me what is right or wrong?" I said "I'm not telling you you're wrong, science is"....

He goes ballistic on me and starts an unbelievable rant, so I simply hung up and called their service manager, whom I have known for years and simply told him "you have a problem"....

I will be going out to the building in question and troubleshooting it for our company on Tuesday, may get a chance to hire my apprentice back on this side of the fence....  ;)

If this idiot could have held his P's and Q's for five minutes I could have made him look like a hero, instead of the resounding zero... ;D

Anyways, in short, don't pee on a hand that tries to help you... :sly:

Good for you.  There are always going to be those that are not qualified to perform a job and most of the time it will be someone else that pays the price. :screwy:

I deal with this all day every day.  I am constantly taking tech calls and explaining the basic fundementals behind the automotive brake system and the mechanics of the system.  I always get the "I've been doing it this way for 30 years....don't tell me how to do brakes".

There is simply no good way that I've found to approach people who don't want to learn.  That's the problem with people...they don't know what they don't know.  There are close minded fools who think that they know everything and refuse to accept input or direction, and there are open minded people who welcome it.

I just got off the phone with a place called "XXXXX Automotive Diagnostics" ....based on the name of the shop, I foolishly assumed that this call would involve some degree of diagnostics on their part.  The question:

Him: I've got a truck that sometimes has a rock hard brake pedal, but most of the time its fine
Me: Have you been able to duplicate the problem
Him: The customer just called, we havent' got the truck in yet.  We're trying to figure out what parts to order
Me:  Order the customer to bring the truck in so you can experience the problem.
Him: What could it be
Me:  The brakes
Him:  Maybe the booster?
Me: Maybe, you need to duplicate the problem
Him: It has a bad transmission...could this cause the problem?
Me: How do you think it could be related?
Him: Vacuum?
Me: Wut?

At this point I ended the conversation and gave him a part number to the DIY carwash kit from Autozone, which includes a bucket, sponge, and small bottle of car wash soap....tools that I feel he may be more qualified to work with.  I didn't tell him what it was though....just the part number.

What's funny is that the old guys like to listen and learn, and they usually are the first to admit that they don't know shit...when in actuality they're actually quite knowledgable about many more things than I.  Seems all the young guys with limited experience that have done absolutely no research whatsoever seem to be the ones resistant to learning anything new....thus are born, obama voters.

Learning is a lost art.

So you know exactly what I'm talking about.  :sly:

I sometimes say I don't know something just to see if he/she has a different spin on it that I like better.. ;D

90% of the time, if "these people" would just humble up a little, they could make themselves look like the sharpest person in the world with little to no effort... :-\ Which is how much they put into it anyways... ;)

So at 10:30PM tonight, I get a call on my work phone...Guess who?  :screwy:

This idiot is off the hook.....He starts off by saying a list of profanities that made me blush

He wants to meet me tomorrow sometime because "we really need to hash this out"....Wuh?
So I asked him what the hell is the problem?

He said he got pulled in to the office this afternoon and was written the riot act for setting up an apprentice for failure....Gotta say I have been doing this for 15 years and that's a new one.  :sly:

So I finally cut to the chase because my Anchor Steam was getting warm  and asked him, why are you calling me? So he says "I just need to know who the hell you think you are talking to my apprentice". So I told him "he called me because he thought his foreman was full of shit and was trying to get him laid off for not following bullshit and inaccurate instructions". He says, "why would he call you?" So I finally spilled the beans (he had no idea I was with his current company for 14 years before he got there) and said "I was his boss before you and we have an understanding of trust and a friendship and I told him to call me if he ever needed anything"  (I am pretty sure I heard a pin drop on the other end of the phone LOL)...

He says "you're Glenn?" I said "yep"....(heard a whole box of pins drop  :D ) He comes back to the phone and I quote "you don't have to worry about *****, I will make sure he gets the help he needs, sorry to have bothered you so late at night."

Holy crap! I guess it's true, if you treat other people the way you would like to be treated, it will eventually come back to you....Thanks mom and dad...LOL  Actually, I think my old manager may have left out who he was talking too, I simply assumed he told him.... ;D

Definitely a boost to the ego there...

You know...three years ago I probably would have done just that, the hair on the back of my neck was standing on end and I literally could feel my blood boil.

But, Being a union employee and having been a supervisor for some of the greatest guys you will ever meet, I think it made me realize how important it is to keep a level head and not fly off the handle. What this jackass does not realize yet is that every little speck of respect that he had, now matter how minuscule, just went out the window and he will never get that back without some serious booty kissing   :-*

And you know whats funny?, I am totally OK with that. Something tells me the emotional beating this jack hole is going to get of the next couple years will make me sleep like a baby at night, more so than getting let go for beating his ass into the ground, although I can have that little thought in the back of my mind for decades now... ;)
