85mph is about the fastest I recommend in a family style vee bottom.

If I can find a winger that would be awesome. Yea, my father hallett (yellow&white) did 78. Trying to convince the guy that bought to sell it back. But this is why I come to the experts. Figured I might be able to be lead. In the right direction.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but have you ever driven a boat 70+?

Tunnels drive a lot different than flats or semi vees, what have you driven before?

It might help you to make the decision. I spend a summer driving everything I could get my hands on before my first purchase, and even then wasn't enough...
10k is a good amount to spend on boat, however 75+ gets real expensive and real quick.
My two cents would be to step into in, don't go for the gusto with the first swing.

Ill third that what does 80-90 feel like.

My boat does 70@ WOT on motor, and 85 on the juice. I have a Rogers. It feels very stable to me, but i know the boat. I let my dad drive it this weekend (hes only driven a prop boat) and he said it felt like its skating.

For me, its stable. But shit happens fast when you are going that fast. If i had a winger or a tunnel i would feel much safer.

This weekend, at the end of a nitrous run this last weekend i had just lifted off the button and was about to let off the throttle and fell into a hole i didnt see

Clenched my asscheeks on that one. I got some pretty good spray over the bow and was a real awakening for me.

I ordered a kill switch with lanyard today, and will be ordering a lifeline shortly.

Just keep in mind, shit changes fast on water. And you are never 100% in control of the situation

I am betting dipped his nose down into a big wake goin a lil faster than he wanted and water came right over the top. I could be wrong but it happened to me a couple times.

Kinda like a witch eye in the dunes.

Came off the top of a wake or roller And the bow fell down into the low area between it and the next roller. I didn't know how else to explain it that that.

It was made worse since I was shutting down at the time too

Hey Steve,

Do you think that it had anything to do with the deep entry keel on your hull?

I don't know, but have read that the deep keel could cause some handling issues at speed.

From a SST owner buy the tunnel hull I have a 502 in mine and I do 80-85 it's worth it I didn't pay 10k but mine has a couple of little issues but nothing that can't be fixed and mine was a turn key boat but the floor on mine was well taken care of my motor bolts through the floor and it does leak a little but it can be fixed so talk the tunnel hull down as low as you can I think you will be very happy with it and mine is a 79

thanks for the input. I think I missed out on the sale. Been super busy of course when I'm trying to set up meets. I think one thing that I was like ing about the sst was at slow speed the fronted bounced up and down. Even on smooth water. Does that happen to you also?

Yea I was watching some videos and it seems at cruzing it bounces but high speed it's straight. Not really set on the the tunnel. I like the look of sitting low at rest. And the kid issue is no problem. Don't have any for now. I'm wanting a boat with alittle room, sits lower, handles nice and is some what fast lol. Is that the impossible. Have you considered a Miller? Roomy, sit low, handles well, built solid, and can be fast.

All the things you seem to be looking for can be had in a V-bottom. A V-bottom can do above 90, but it would be safer in a tunnel or gullwing.
The more popular models, Rogers, Bahner, Miller, are usually faster with less power and handle better than Challenger, Tahiti, or Kona etc. Not to say that those hulls can't be good boats. I have a Tahiti and it has been a good boat.

Buying parts and having work done will cost more money to do than buying a boat with it already done.
You have a good budget to get a good turn-key boat.

If you can get a motor, this is a real good deal:
