Well out here still looking for a boat. Came across a 1990 commander was wondering if anyone could give an opinion. Anyone that knows some tricks or secrets. Asking 5k seems pretty fair priced. Trailer needs work for sure. Down side hole in front on intake gasket I think there was a small knock and the timing was way off. Oh and the upholstery will need replacing soon.

I'd say stay away from that one, if you're not concerned with being on the water right away then give it some time, 5 grand can get you a clean reliable turn key boat in a few months. Don't take that the wrong way, that could be a clean boat, "could" being the key word. If there's a knock and it needs upholstery you could find yourself spending double getting it to where you want.
