Rebates
 
As you may have heard, the President and Congress have said each and every one of
us would now get a nice rebate.
 
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
 
If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will all go to India, if we
purchase fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, if we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan, if we purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America, so the only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes and beer, since those are the only businesses still in the US. 

I'll spend it at the bar so it stays in the neighborhood!

You will not have to claim it on your taxes or repay it in any way.  It is an advance on next years taxes.  What will happen is that you will not receive that money from next years taxes if you are getting a rebate.  That said if you owe taxes next year you will include all but $600 in what you owe.  A family of four will get a rebate check of $1800....however when they file taxes next spring, they will only receive a $600 tax break...they will end up "reaping an early tax break" of $1200 .

"The bill works by reducing the tax code's 10 percent bracket on the first $6,000 of taxable income to zero for 2008. That 10 percent of the first $6,000, $600, will come back to you as a check in advance, probably sometime in May. That check will basically be a "prebate" on a temporary tax cut that will be enacted next year. So, since the new zero percent tax on the first $6,000 of your income will have already been taken care of, when you go to file your taxes in 2008, everything will seem normal and you will be eligible for the same refund amount as always. The rest of your income will be taxed as usual."
