Thought this was kinda cool...Pontoon with 2 dildo's..errr...300x outboards strapped on the back set the world pontoon record 81mph! Looks like a wild freakin' ride!

Are you positive, I think that there was a guy that had three 2.5 mercury drag motors on the back.

Like I said it's kind of pointless without certain details, like which class he was racing in, what kind of v-drives he was competing with, etc... but I am positive he had ONE black (Merc. ?) outboard on the back of it. It was a red hull.

in the late 80s at Advantage, the first partycat outboard we built was for a wealthy Texan, I take that back. The first outboard was for Mert Littlefield, of blower fame, the second was for this other guy. We built it with twin OMCs on the back. I don't remember the HP rating, been a long time, but whatever was the biggest engine at the time, that's what we used. Anyway, it ran high 80's. Shoot, that was almost 20 years ago.   I would think the record is much higher than 81 today.
This was before we had the 'glass' deck on them, they were just a flat deck with railing, canvas and seats but still, that's honkin'.

What's shady about it?
I would think 81 in an aluminun 'tri-toon' (not a pontoon) is pretty good. There's a record, or a worlds fastest, for every damn thing built. Boats are no different. Shit, back in the early 70s at Tahiti we had the worlds fastest jet powerd tri hull...didn't mean a thing. It's all marketing. 

Wow ! That thing looks like it could use a little weight in the front before it flips over!

The fact that the whole boat isn't touching the water and looks like it's about ta' blow over looks shady ta' me.. I can't image going much faster then that in one without a certified death sentence! And how fast was the worlds fastest jet powered tri-hull?

Hell, I think it looks good in that shot, but you can't tell a thing on how it rides from a single snap shot of the run. I know what you mean though, but to me it looks shaky, not shady. Shady to me is someone that dishonest.  And the last 3 or 4 feet of the pontoons are still in the water, not that hairy of a ride.



Oh that 'worlds fastest tri-hull' at Tahiti...never saw the water. It was a pure advertisement ploy. It had a 427 chevy, custom made dry stacks, nice intake and carbs and so on including painted down the side...'TAHITI Worlds Fastest Tri Hull', the speed and ET too.   

Now THAT'S shady. 

My dad and another rigger took it to the water after it had been sitting around for a while, Schuster would have it sitting out front of the shop, (or even better, in the parking lot at boat shows!) and threw a rod outa the block trying to get that big toad close to the advertised speed. lol. I don't remember now what the speed was.

shady, shakey, sketchy.....call it what you want, I wouldnt want to be on that deck doin 80.  An 80mph gust of wind would be enough to toss that beer can over like a sheet of paper.
