Hi all, new to jet boats and just sold my I/O I've had for 6 year and has been in the family for 30 years. I have driven a few jets and want one so i can go below Parker. I am looking for a nice clean boat, that doesn't need lots or work. Full stringer's ,thru transom headers ,Berkley or dominator jet with a 454 and a covered motor (I have a little one) an open bow would be a plus but so far noticed that those are a little more than 5-6k. I've been searching for months and everything I have seen and visited is crap :banghead:. The two that made it to trials at the lake both failed. Any leads would be great thanks!

What type of performance are you looking for? Just something to cruise or are you looking to get onto the River Outlaw Top Ten list. ;D
Are you looking for a cruiser with more freeboard? Or a low freeboard jet?
Does the exhaust have to TT headers or would a log and riser system work? Just as long as it's thru-transom, right?
Don't rule out looking at over-transom header boats. You could sell the OT headers install TT exhaust without spending too much.
Are you looking for a particular brand of hull? Brand of jet?
You should be able to find a clean boat for your price, but it might end up being a less desirable brand, but still a good boat.
The open bow might be tough to find in a clean boat in your price range, as you've seen.
You're coming up on the right time to buy, so be patient. Good luck.

Saw that CL add, I never believe pictures anymore...pretty far and that prices makes me think it's a project ... I know it's the right time , I've been seeing prices dive, I'm not against OT headers I just don't want to put work into it right off bat, plus wife's request, So i must oblige. I search CL every day guess I just need to be patient. I had a commander in the local resivoir last Sunday pretty decent boat , but the oil pressure gauge didn't work, he drove it like a bat out a hell for our test drive so that made me wonder how hard he beat it, and then at dock the starter wouldn't engage nor would it engage on the traileron after we pulled it out. Gave him gas money paid for entrance, and walked away. It was sad I liked that boat alot

At this point anything to get family from point a to point b doesn't have to go 70mph. Would be nice but just need to carry wife and kid around possibly tow a tube.

Don't have a whole lot of details, and never owned one. But have heard they are solid nice boats. Most are heavier than its comparable model. But when you're not trying to get make every pound count going over 100, doesn't too much make a difference.

Just curious exactly what you didn't like about the bahner. That way we can search for something more in line of what you want.

I like the bahner, last two I looked at were junk maybe I have a biased opinion on them after that, I prefer open bow is main reason... I'm at river now and kinda thinking I want open bow commander/ elminatior somthing to handle chop better than a flat bottom.

Still searching... anyone close to sd have a clean boat?

I believe she is asking $4800, all I know is it's a 454 and it needs an oil pan gasket replaced. It's got a Berkeley Pump and its located in Tucson, AZ

I'll trade ya a rooster booster for a droop lol
-
I told you to come try mine out, it's gonna be too late. So booster and 150 bucks?
-
God I want your boat
How different is your hull (Advantage, right?) from the Bahner?
From the pics, it looks real similar.
-
I believe the Bahner is full stringer mine isn't. Also the Bahner is wider, more room
-

Next time out, we'll swap the day and see if theres a difference on either side.
Did you get ahold of Koby about your pump?
-
Nope, never did. It's ok I already dropped the deposit off today for the repairs
-
Darell post a good picture of your boat on here please

These are the best ones I have on my phone right now Tom

sorry for the bad info sam actually sold it already

That carerra was nice I saw it, but that's 2k over budget. I know most open bows are around 10. I'm not against a closed bow just prefer open bow...

nice looking open bow there
-
Sure does look nice.
Any details?

Yep sure am pumped, cost $4000... mild build 454 w/ dominator jet, split bowl hydro place diverter. Tandem axel trailer with folding tounge. Wouldn't start and Im 100 % it needs a re build on the motor. He said it lost oil pressure and he shut it down before it hit 0 , coulnt restart after that, he gave up on it... I am assuming the worst but who n knows. Going to disconnect the jet and pull plugs see if I can get it to spin with a breaker bar.
-
I could be mistaken....but just to bar engine over...you shouldn't need to pull jet.
If jet is seized....different story...
Make sure engine spins a full 360...

He's planning on pulling the jet to be rebuilt also, someone on PB said based on how high he was on he beach in a picture the guy posted.

high.....like run up on beach, water level dropped....or other recreational activities?
-
Once I disconnect the jet from motor I'll know what deal is, pump is clean no ,weird play in shaft, impeller is Clean and snooth, grate is not bent at all...I am going to see if motor spins, if it doesn't, I'm pulling it. My buddy who builds motors said I can bring it over after he finishes somone else's build.
-
just saying....
its a bit of work to pull pump, just to spin motor over by hand. if pump is good to go, it shouldnt prevent you from turning motor over....and should not be at risk of damaging pump. youre turning it over by hand....
its your float...do what you wish. just tossing in a couple pennies
-
I'm just going to disconnect u joint, nothing crazy yet...
-
have fun
-
I'll start a thread, Very excite for my first build. Feel like I have a great platform to start with. I need to see of both spin freely, the pump had a small amount of play fwd and back, I want to make sure wear washers is good also. I'm almost 100 percent that this motor needs some sort of break down so disconnect is eminent. Don't want tk make this two hard, but im going to be thorough.

I'm pretty sure he's disconnecting the driveshaft from the pump and motor. I didn't see anywhere that he said he's completely pulling the pump.
Off topic, but was just by your house the other day at the union hall lol

I'm sure I'll have a great time, it's what needs to happen. I have to figure out where to start. For the price, I am assuming the worst.

It takes me like 5 minutes to disconnect my pump. 4 bolts on the crank and 4 nuts for the u-bolts. I do it always now to run the engine so as to save my nice B1 built pump.

Like I said. Just my 2 cents.
Some may feel it's necessary to disconnect pump from motor to spin engine over, by hand....not under power, then cool.
It was mentioned the pump was solid...or at least he felt it was...that the engine may be in question. This is where I'm coming from.
Again.
His boat. No one has to do anything I suggest.
Apologies if it (or this) came across as an order or with I'll intent.
-
No problem jarvis, appreciate replies ,all of them. After I told my uncle about this, he gave me a long block 454 sitting in his garage, granted he is 8 hours away. I'm really pumped up about this project/ boat

update, main bearing spun, It had lots of metal in the oil pan, all sizes from metal dust to chunks... my plan of attack is going to A: buy new motor and start over ( i prefer this because itll have a warranty), or B: build a 468 and get the machine work done. everything besides motor are in great shape. It has been slow going because of family shit, but im stll just as happy as before.
