I think you have too much oil in the pan. .... foam don't cool.

Hmm that's possible. It shows a qrt and a half high when it's cold but warm it's right at the line maybe a bit over. I'll try draining

A 10 quart pan don't hold ten quarts and a twelve quart pan would be unusual.

Back when I had an olds... I ran it at 160/180 to avoid water pressure cracking the heads around valves( Ga/B big valve heads). You want to keep a stock oil pump an drill out the returns in the heads. Use good oil like Vr1 with napa gold or wix filter an about 1qt less than pan states. This is what I did with mine for mostly stock an mild cam.

I had a pressure gauge on the intake and set my gate and relief valve and got no more than 14psi at wot. So I'm not worried about that. I did external return lines to the pan so I'm not worried about that either. Run vr1 sae 50.

But I have been running 12 quarts since I got the boat so I'll drop to 10 or so and see if that helps my problem. Could a lean situation make the oil get that hot? And run for 3 summer that lean without having problems lol

My olds runs no more than 140 , no matter what I'm doing. Also I have a Dooley pan that is a 10 qt . And I put 9 qt in it. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents!!😀
