Never been to one of these races. How is it for a kid? I know we have beer garden but is there pit action or anything for the kids? My sons 8, I'd like to take him but he can get board real quick if he just as to sit there all day! Also, does he need hearing protection? He's been to Supercross and Monster Trucks... About the same noise level? Thanks!

I may take some flak here but there are few sporting events more boring to kids than boat races, drag boats being the worst.  Way too much down time in between races IMO and no I don't have ADD.  I would say there are quite a bit louder than a Supercross race too.  Anyone can walk through the pits, but there isn't much for a kid to find interesting.  If you do go, bring a bike or two, LB can require a lot of walking.  Also there is no bleacher type seating so you are sitting in the sand or standing the whole time, so come equipted like you were going to the beach for the day.  Get there early for a good spot and close parking.

Warning:  Shameless plug for Applied Arts Video to follow.

For those of you who were not on the site last year at this time, this race held a whole lotta drama and camaraderie in the pits.  Search for the thread of posts last year and you will find some good reading.  Most of the people in the vid will be there again this year.  In the video you will get a taste of what the layout looks like in LB and what to expect.  It doesn't really show the distances accurately or the noise level though.

I'm going to disagree with you ever so slightly on LB not being a kid friendly race. Rosssaboss is pretty good about allowing the people on the beach get wet and wade in the water ...

That being said, bring sunscreen and a way to get the heck out of the sun.

About the only thing that sticks out as far as kids go is the length, they jamb a lot of racing into two days......
