you can borrow mine until you get one ;)
-
Ralph, that was "very nice" of you to offer to lend my son your MSD till he gets one. Brian always
puts his heart into working on all the boats he has had.! I can't wait to see how the Eliminator will perform, my guess is freeking fast.
-
my guess is he pulls the motor and sells it to 2sav/468bahner and soon to be purplehaze468 :D :D
-
almost forgot with a hillbilly scoop on top
-
Don't distract 2sav, he has an engine to finish ;D

Purplehaze , makes sense now bro...
PUT THE PIPE DOWN OR PASS IT ::)

as the former owner of this beautiful sled, it was freaking fast, before the theft...it scared me kind of!
BTW::: a guy in the storage place by my house has a 26' shockwave named 'purple haze', just for the record ;D

Yes I have seen it, I believe I saw it the day after he got it. The day I was going over to his house I thought I was going to see him waxing the Nordic, what a surprise to see to the Eliminator in his driveway Sweet, I miss my Cole.

finally got the fuel rail made today and finished the pluming
-
your pressure gauge will only show you pump pressure not carb pressure the guage needs to go after the regulator

Ten steps forward and five back
Hey Brian, The pics look Much better here then the ones you sent me on my phone, since the first boat you and I have owned we have learned a lot, taking engines out of one boat and putting it in another boat and so on, now we know where to put a pressure gauge thanks to Ralph,Glad we meet him and his family at parker a respectable person, His boat looks freaking fast .Who new you and I would both have Eliminators cool,I think I will hang on to mine for awhile .
Not to many trick or treaters tonight
-
when my dad and i started messing with jet boats we knew nothing about them, but, we just kept on trying and reading these forums and now we do ok. i love wrenching on the boats with my pops, great way to spend time together. brian i'll call you later today.

brian, that looks BALLER...very nice job!

finally got the fuel rail made today and finished the plumbing
Primed the carb today checking for leaks just my luck, fuel coming out of the sight hole of the float bowl tightened it up, but still leaks, maybe just needs a new washer, any suggestions? :banghead:
also, should the fuel pump still remain running after the float bowls are full? (i set the regulator to 6 psi)
-
fuel pump will runt till you shut it off

Ok going down the check list how about the dizzy, first things first already installed MSD box and coil stock pointless dizzy, upgrading the dizzy will i see any gains or like Ralph says waste of money.
-
checking the carb out today notice it has 30cc accelerator pump in the front and 50cc in the rear does this sound about right?

That's the standard size from Holley, if that motor is what Prospect says it is, I'd say you're going to want to go 50cc front and rear, and probably squared 82 jets.
Good luck
-
Thanks its a start ^-^

Took the jets out 67 up front 75 rear not going to work, power valve missing in the rear looks like some one piece it together.Thinking 80's up front 82's rear, what about the ac pump's 30 front 50 rear?
-
Brian-
Put 82 jets front & rear 50cc pumps front & rear, 4.5 power valves, run your timing up
To 14* initial (38* total) that motor wants fuel & timing. Remember that thing had
dual 750s on it
-
Thanks Skip I'm all over it.

i agree with all this accept the timing, start at 34*and work your way up. unless you are very sure about your set up

Thats were up come in and help Ralph and I'll put the bigger jets like Skip suggested and tune from their, thanks guys for your help. ^-^

finishing up the things to do list throttle cable and bracket installed changed from front of the carb. to the back

Getting some head work done ;D on the boat the heads i have right now are d3ve machine shop said he'll swap them out for some dove's plus the cost of port and polish which of the to heads are better?

DOVE Heads far out perform the D3VE heads in stock form, if you match port the intake & exhaust, you'll be happy. The only concern is the DOVE heads are like 74cc, the D3VE heads are like 92cc, you gotta watch your compression ratio. I would suggest you check all that shit before you go
messing around with that motor, Motor Magic built that motor, from what I've been told, that boat was a fairly stout piece, 80MPH+.
See you in January
-
i had it above 80 legit once...the comp. ratio is already high...w/out different pistons i'd advise against the smaller chambers...at least right now. skip's right on the money. and yes, motor majic did indeed build the motor. cheers!
Reid

just to add, the valve train components wont swap either

Thanks Ralph, you just saved me some money ;D ill just have the d3ve cleaned up.
-
Thanks Ralph, you just saved me some money ;D ill just have the d3ve cleaned up.
just get the damn thing on the water so you can get some reference points for future upgrades. when you are ready i know of some really good ford porters, that being said porting aint cheep and the better way would be with a set of edelbrock heads, they come in 95cc's just like the heads you have on there now.
-
Been doing some research on my boat, according to Greg shoemaker its an SS Bubble deck the reason its called that no sub floor, also commented they were fast hulls. ;D
-
Boost, check out this page from an old brochure.
-
I'm digging the paint scheme on the third one down on that brochure. Very nice

Thanks Ron good info.
-
Got the MSD dizzy in thanks Ralph, tried starting it back fire :banghead:had it on #6 cylinder did an 180 on it now its on # one fired right up ;D set the timing to 32 degrees, motor came alive.
-
Thats a purdy Ferd you got there ;D
Looks killer, hope it runs as good.
-
Thanks, the motor turned out to be bigger then i thought 514 ci Aggressor pump it should run hard.hopping it hits the big 80 mph.
-
Brian, that boat ought to run 80 easily. 85 is the mark you should be shooting for. Get it ready, the Papp deal is coming sooner than you think.
Skip
-
looks like were going to be taking my Dads v-drive out to the Tom Papp deal almost got his boat ready swapped out the snails for some center risers, hope we finished be for the tenth couldn't get parts do to the holidays :banghead:
-
Brian, both boats are coming to Elsinor right?
-
Brian, both boats are coming to Elsinor right?
No Ron,just my Dads boat it will only be the two of us what about you,is the Rogers going to be ready.
-
Hopefully we'll be out there with both boats. Looks like the temps are going to be in the 70's by the end of the week. Should be a good time. Ron
-
Out on Elsinore this weekend took some pics of the roost 70mph@4500 got some bugs to workout, Flame arrestor, starter took a dump, timing
-
Boost,
What did you end up doing with your timing?
-
Boost,
What did you end up doing with your timing?
Skip the timing was lock out,I set it at 32 degrees ran good but it is to much initial timing had problems starting,so i put the weight kit and the bushing & spring set back into the MSD dizzy problem fixed until the starter failed.
-
So you unlocked the dizzy? If you're gonna buy a new starter try one of these

Besides the looks is their any performance gains running ot headers.

I'm not sure my "Assanometer" could tell, those TT headers are supposed to be pretty efficient.
GT
-
The TT has two more bends in them So i was hoping The OT headers would give me a couple more hundred RPMS.
-

A would have to doubt the hell out of a couple hundred RPM, 50 maybe, it takes a pretty substantial jump in HP to gain that much engine speed, now if you were going from TT logs to OT headers, different conversation, just my .02 cents...Let us know :-\
GT

so I heard through the grape this boat had a killer new go fast scoop- where are the pics????? Inquiring mind want to know

Here you go,just needs to be repainted to match the boat.

very nice Brian ;)
We need to post up more pics of plumbing/wiring for people like me.....
i want to do it clean like yours and only do it one time ;D

Bad news well for me,I'm running an MSD dizzy 8580 the big one looks like its going to hit the tunnel ram  don't know for sure I took some rough measurements it close ??? any body seen a setup like mine using a MSD dizzy on a tunnel ram.Don't make no sense to pull it apart to find out it wont fit.

yeah if that is an offenhauser, like the original TR that was on it, the stock autolite dizzy was real close...just to 'paint a picture'
Reid
-
Brian boat looks sick and the TR will be bad ass- hey how thick of material is the mounting plate for you scoop?
-
Brian boat looks sick and the TR will be bad ass- hey how thick of material is the mounting plate for you scoop?
1/8 thickness for the mounting plate.
-
The distributor is a fine piece. Unfortunately, the the large diameter cap will not allow clearance for the Offenhauser's tunnel ram's plenum. Keep the dizzy in there. Your current intake does not give up much power compared to the single carb tunnel ram.
LO
p.s.: I didn't see any crankcase pics, would like to see them.
-
good job brian pretty sexy my friend....almost as sexy as you...how was pomona swapmeet?
-
So you ready to sell that Demon now :D

Here's another project i got my self into finished up the wiring and rigged the fuel system all most done.
Hey Brian I know this is from a pretty old thread (go back to page 1 where you had the pic when you just redid the fuel pump and seperater ect) but I am getting ready to re-do all my fuel lines and go to a larger diameter becuase I am having a fuel delivery problem and cant hold shit for pressure. I remembered looking at this picture a long time ago and now that I finally understand more about fuel systems ect... I know what I am looking at here.
The question I wanted to ask is are your tanks top drawing tanks or are the bungs at the bottom of your tanks?
Thanks
-

Nick there drawing from the top are you running a gauge?
-
yeah I have a gauge, that is one of the ways I know I'm having problems, the damn thing wont hold pressure over 3 lbs when I'm cruising. I have a brand new fuel pump too. I think I have too many flow restrictions in my lines (90's and small lines) so because of that I am going to re-do my fuel line set up and eliminate all 90's and run bigger hose and see if that helps.
When I was out on Sat we tried everything else, we ran bigger jets we ran a bigger power valve and nothing, the damn think just kept falling on it's face when I would go to stab it, it' almost like I have something stuck in my fuel line. From what I can tell sometimes little things add up and create flow restrictions.
So this is my next project, the shitty part is that I am not going to be able to take it for memorial day, really sucks but at least we will have my dad's boat.
The weekend after we get home I am going to get to work on it again. I was just trying to see if other guys had top drawing fuel tanks as well.
-
almost all of us do, at least thats all i see with all of the gunnel tanks that we have.
Reid
-
almost all of us do, at least thats all i see with all of the gunnel tanks that we have.
Reid
That just seems so bass ackwards to me....why would you draw fuel from the top of the tank. (i know a tube goes down into the tank but why wouldnt they just be gravity fed with a bung at the lowest point in side the tank????
-
Less likely to plug up the line with possible sedement on bottom of tank if any? IDK just a though.
-

I feel the same way, my tanks draw from the bottom. The tanks in my bahner drew from the bottom... I always felt this way it was easier on the fuel pump to get fuel to the carb without working as hard......
but i have noticed not all tanks give you the option of drawing from the bottom, i guess im just lucky ;)
-
personally i dont see it being a problem drawing from the top almost every tank draws from the top...must be a reason for that...only thing i own that doesnt draw from the top is my dirtbike...of course it doesnt have a fuel pump!
-
Just a thought, perhaps its a safty issue. Trying to keep as many welds at the top of the tank along with the threaded fittings.
-
I thought the issue was a tank that draws from the top won't empty out into the bilge if there was ever a break/leak in the fuel line.
-
So I guess this turned out to be a total thread jack but I'm gald all you guys threw in your $0.02. I can see it from all angles here, I will re-do the fuel lines and see if i can resolve my issues.
Thanks guys.

I actually helped Jeff restore that boat a few years back. We had it close to 90 mph (GPS) at elsinore on a cool day. He was running it with a tunnel ram and dual carb set up at that time and i'm pretty sure the rpm's were closer to 5000. That was back when you could get away without running baffles in the OT headers too. You should be able to get more than 70 out of her. That's funny about the starter going out. I can't count how many starters he went through in a two year period after it was restored. I'd recommend carrying a spare HAHA! I'll throw in one more little piece of trivia you may not know about that boat. He was running it in parker back in the early 80's and crashed it and tore a huge hole in the side of it! Could never tell now though.
