That just seems so bass ackwards to me....why would you draw fuel from the top of the tank. (i know a tube goes down into the tank but why wouldnt they just be gravity fed with a bung at the lowest point in side the tank?

I feel the same way, my tanks draw from the bottom. The tanks in my bahner drew from the bottom... I always felt this way it was easier on the fuel pump to get fuel to the carb without working as hard......

but i have noticed not all tanks give you the option of drawing from the bottom, i guess  im just lucky

Just a thought, perhaps its a safty issue. Trying to keep as many welds at the top of the tank along with the threaded fittings.

So I guess this turned out to be a total thread jack but I'm gald all you guys threw in your $0.02. I can see it from all angles here, I will re-do the fuel lines and see if i can resolve my issues.

I actually helped Jeff restore that boat a few years back. We had it close to 90 mph (GPS) at elsinore on a cool day. He was running it with a tunnel ram and dual carb set up at that time and i'm pretty sure the rpm's were closer to 5000. That was back when you could get away without running baffles in the OT headers too. You should be able to get more than 70 out of her. That's funny about the starter going out. I can't count how many starters he went through in a two year period after it was restored. I'd recommend carrying a spare HAHA! I'll throw in one more little piece of trivia you may not know about that boat. He was running it in parker back in the early 80's and crashed it and tore a huge hole in the side of it! Could never tell now though.
