I admit defeat. after I dont know how many 15 hour days in a row today I am forrced to admit my boat will not be ready for my holiday.cylinder 2 has no spark changed wires cap plug still nothing. after mixing and matching 4 sizes of push rods it has 2 cylinder with noisy lifters probably colapsed hopefully thats all.it wont draw fuel from the tanks even through new lines but if you take the main line and stuff it down the filler neck it runs fine,probably a pickup issue. battery cables and a few other small things still to do but only 2 days left and 100 acres of hay to bale still I dont have any more time left maybe next year

well it turned out sort of ok after all we got to the lake on Sat the 10 and it was glass calm all day ,felt real bummed out . Sunday was the same ,my good friend and chief mechanic Dale showed up at noon and we sat around looking at calm water discussing the possibility of catastrophic failure and what we could do, and decided the best thing was drain the oil cut open the filter and see what was in it. by the time 2:30 had rolled around we had decided to drive 5 hours home see what we could do and maybe bring back the boat. so My daughters boyfriend (also a mechanic) Dale and myself drove back to the farm drained the oil checked the filter and not a speck of filings anywhere.We then dove in pulled the motor hooked up the driveline ran water fuel lines made up battery cables ,did alot of other finishing installed the seats that my cousin had finished late friday night then lifted it up and loaded it back on the trailer and at 5 after 12 we headed back to Osoyoos a 5 hour drive that only took 3hours and 45 min on the way back got there had breakfast then put the boat in the water.heres a couple of pics in the water cause Ray says a pic on the water is worth a thousand on the trailer.So here it was for a half hour on the water.we were out cruising and running about 3000 rpm and a sudden pop then it died. it started right away and idled but I saw right away no oil pressure. Towed it back put it on the trailer pulled the dizzy and as we thought dist gear pin sheared. then taped a 5/16 socket on a long extnsion and found that the oil pump drive shaft seems to have corkscrewed so it was fun while it lasted.tomorrow ill pull the motor and see whats up in the bottom end.Ill post more pics of the interior and other finish later

That really sucks after that marathon thrash session. I think alot of us can relate to that story.
Any chance of getting it fixed and running it before it gets too cold?

welll it looks like I may have dodged a large expensive bullet. we pulled the motor and rolled it over and it looks like pump failure I think to much pump for a stock oil pan .the pump shaft corkscrewed and sheared off . the only metal we could find was a small bit in the filter.took the main caps off and the bearings are just a uniform grey color and they still had lots of oil on them. Now wait for my new stock pump to arrive and then back to the water. I wonder if my noisy lifters may go away with a pump thats not pumping the pan dry hmm just a thought. what do you guys think any thing else I should check

finally took the rest of the pics off my camera here is a few of the interior. we are going to reassemble the motor tomorrow night and try and get it back in the boat .If only this farming didnt keep getting in the way

Good job gord I hade no idea of all the work you did I cant wait to see this boat on the water. Aug 7 is the poker run at Harrison lake. We dont run it but its fun to watch the start. then we usually run the river for the day. Let me know if your running by next weekend.

Put in the new oil pump and a new ready to run MSD ignition and then up to Allouette Lake tonight to break it in it ran great this time.my only concern is at idle after its warmed up the oil pressure is about 30 lbs. then as soon as you give it gas it jumps up to 50 and stays there is this ok?

Sounds OK to me, you may have had hot oil, the viscosity drops and so will the pressures...

What weight oil did you run?

You did an outstanding job on that boat BTW...

right now comp cams 10 30 breakin oil then switching to Joe Gibbs Hotrod oil 10 30 but im open to suggestions thanks for the advice and the comment Im real happy to be able to use it finally

well this is becoming a familiar scene ,use the boat for an hour then pull the motor. went to a local lake for 2 days with the boat . put it in and ran great for about an hour then under idle i heard a single ping sound from the back like some thing hitting the driveline, then noticed a lot of oil in the bilge. still had 65 lbs oil pressure so we went in to the dock and started to look at the motor. on the back of the bell housing at the top there is a small inspection cover and it was wet with oil running out from underneath it.I think that the plug on the end of the cam has come out and that was the ping sound because when I picked up the block from the machine shop they said it was odd that that plug was larger than stock and they did not have one so they rooted around in the dumpster , found the old one and reused it and I think it has worked its way out so now I have to pull the motor to fix the problem and clean the oily bilge then I guess Ill rebuild the pump. So much for taking the boat to Eastern Washinton for holidays next week

finally got time to pull the motor and I was wrong . No sign of where the oil might be coming from. Going to build an engine stand so i can run the motor out of the boat and see whats up what a waste of a summer

Most local auto parts store sell a UV dye and a light. You put the dye in the oil and the light will show exactly where it is leaking from.

I finally found a few hours on Sunday and tackled the oil leak. It turned out to be the pan gasket was too large over the rear bearing cap and pinched outward and you could see right into the pan.An easy fix as I had a new gasket. we put the motor in the boat fired it up and now it has a chirp in the valvetrain. Im thinking rocker arem not getting oil or maybe a dry valve guide, the engine sat all winter without running . any suggestions or other ideas
