I built that boats sister. It was an 85 with a small block but the base color was baby blue with reds and oranges. Pretty sweet ride.

Also. That distributor should not be used in a closed engine compartment,  not trying to be a dick, just trying to keep you safe.

thats the thought behind it.  fumes lingering in the engine compartment can be ignited by a spark.  thats why boats with engine compartments are supposed to have blowers....to suck in fresh air and blow out any fumes that may be lingering.  i read one should actually run blower for a min or so to help vent compartment before starting engine.

open engine bays....different story...

It doesn't have the spark arresting capabilities found on coast guard approved marine ignition, electronics and fuel system components.  So, yes it could be a fire concern.

I agree with GT Jets, when it comes to enclosed engine components it really is a matter of safety.

Definitely use the fan,  but look into a marine distributor. Pertronix makes a really nice piece for not a lot of dough.

Welcome to the coolest jet boat site there is.

There is a huge debate on whether or not to use a thermostat. It does require a special stat housing and plumbing.

The only way I like to do then is with an automotive style block mounted water pump and an I/O style stat housing. But don't get me wrong, I have used the other style.

There should be a gate valve off the pump that you can throttle down to get the idle temperature up. I like to shoot for about 150°F at idle. They typically do drop while under way.

I will look into the DUI and see what's up with the marine rating.

Looking into the DUI. There is a marine version, however does not hold an SAE Marine rating. In other words,  not USCG compliant. But it looks to have all the right components.
