Diverters on a peddle work just like plates on a flattie.  Work great for circle racing, set up the boat with a push on the down nozzle sets the boat and you ease off of it as you reach the apex. Also works well to help lower the boat in nasty chop.  But using a diverter this way is backward to the way guys use them at the river to blow rootertails across the lake (never could understand that logic). Yes they are set up with return springs.
