I've been lucky with the stock starter in my boat, but have a Powermaster high torque in my truck.  It's not USCG approved, but I haven't had any problems with it.

I have a Powermaster on the motor home and the boat,  ran a Tilton and an MSD on the race boat,  same same as far as I was concerned.

I'm running a starter out of an old corvette. It's higher torque than stock. Autozone carries them and has a lifetime warranty. I'll see if I can dig up a part number.

Look for two copper bands on the motor terminal to the solenoid.

Here is what I have two of.

Think builder told me 11:1, I don't think it has that much but would have to test myself. With the way I wired the boat I need 3 point solenoid on the starter.

The 461 at 12:1 in the Canyon got a Powermaster Power Max Plus good for up to 16:1. Spins it like a 8:1
