455 dipstick and tube
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:35:44 PM »
Does anyone have a source one a good dip stick tube that will actually fit. My old one I had to grind down to fit In the hole in the block. Just got a mr gasket deal from jegs and it drops right in the hole and is super loose. Looking for the right one that will press fit into the block. Oldsmobile dealer says they can't get one. Dont want another one of the chrome plated deal that flakes off into the engine.

I used this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-469404. It hammered in nicely. I scuffed up the chrome under the base ring and used a little Ultra Grey for added insurance. The worst part of it are the words that say Taiwan on the dipstick under the handle. The chrome looks like good quality though and the tube has a pretty thick steel wall.

Damn thats the one i had before! Had to grindn it to fit. The new mr gasket one drops right in like a hot dog down a hallway. Starting to think the hole in the block has been messed with

I've had the same problem twice with the Mr Gasket tube   first in the mid 90s  on my 442.  I ended up getting one from year one  it worked great. Then I broke the one on my Rogers  changing exhaust gaskets  and I shimmed the Mr Gasket  I thought it was good  until I took a 2 foot wake over the side  and ended up with water in my oil  a problem I never had before

Anytime. It seemed like a well made piece to me. A little pricey, but I think it was a good value.

My neighbor had an aftermarket one from Spectre, and it fit like total crap.
