So I've been down for some time now, turns out both of my heads were cracked between the valves, so I got a new set, and a badass holley for the setup while I was at it.  Now I am about to go get me a starter here soon and try and fire it for this season!

My question is for the wiring on the distributor/coil.  It is an MSD billet marine unit with a blaster SS coil. The only wire that runs to the coil (besides the distributor + wire) is a wire that comes from the alternator excite and goes to the ignition and then to the coil.  i have read that there is supposed to also be a wire going from my start solenoid directly to the coil +.  Is this correct?

The person I bought it from had some cheap ignition box installed and this wire was not present, hence my asking.

Basically what I am asking is if there should be a wire going from the "I" port on the solenoid to the (+) on the coil?

Would not having this wire cause me to have weak spark?

Basically what happens is the "I" terminal bypasses the ballast resistor putting a full 12V to the ignition coil....When the ballast resistor is in the circuit you will only have about 6V at the (+) terminal on the coil after the voltage drop is figured from the battery to the ignition switch and back...

You should have 8V while the engine is running if indeed you have a ballast resistor. They also make internally resisted coils, so be careful.

Is your MSD a RTR? do you have any pictures?

The distributor wire should go to (-) not (+)....The (+) is for the purple wire from the (I) terminal from the ignition switch...It sounds like you have some major wire issues to me...There are better ways to wire up the alternator too....
