Forked up what pic. I haven't  paid any atention to this thread until last night when I went to put my alternator on(new rail kit)  and whatta ya know , I've got the same problem. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how that hole in front of the fuel pump is going to be the pivit point? Forked where is the pic? Maybe I sould try agin this morning(sober ::)I figured something like what Chromey posted but it would only have 1 bolt holding it to the head,I had a set up like that on my k boat and it was constantly loose. BTW I didn't know you could run an alternator backward. Jetaholic your mount is pretty slick also,If I didn't still have 50 things to do b-4 I hit the water I'd probably pursue something like that.

i put the pics in the project thread "it's home",porbably should have put them here first, the hole that they were refering to is the one above the mounting hole to the rail, my dumb ass thought they were talking about the fuel pump hole ;D, i believe you need to do something to the alternator before you run it backwards, hopefully someone will chime in on that because i am not sure, anyway here are the pics from last night, i still need to wire it, i only had 10ga at the house, so the wife is getting me 8ga this am/

Thanks for the pics Forkedup. I'll go out there and scratch my head again. I think our rail kits are  different. The "hole " in front of where tha manual pump would be on mine is about the size of a silver dollar.

It's not running backwards, it's going the same direction as it would if it were bolted to the other side of the engine.  :D

My rail kit/engine plate doesn't have that hole.

Tom put up a pic of an alternator with the pulley facing the back of the boat, I didn't know you could do that. I cant come up with anything that looks decent with the brackets I have, looks like it's back to the wallet. Time to call Tom.(monday)

it doesnt matter which direction it runs. i've seen 'em on the rear end and just worked on a Willys w/ it on the motor plate backwards

Your front plate has the same alternator mounting hole as shown in FORKEDUP's pics. It's right at the top right hand corner of the plate. As mentioned before, we are not talking about the fuel pump "window".

Umm oh that hole :o yeh I fell pretty stupid I'm glad that hole works better thatn the fuel pump window b-cause that one worked so good I'm now runnin an electric (or tryin to) Thanks for the tip on the upper bracket Vami, cp it is.
