So I want to ditch the logs on my Southwind cruiser but I don't have the big $$$$$ for jacketed headers or the nice manifold type with risers. Can I run Bassett TT headers on a closed motor if the engine hatch is far enough away. The headers would be jet hot coated. Thanks for the help.

If youre looking for performance out of those logs, you can cut the exiting tip off. If you notice, they step down from 4" to 3.5" (or something of the sorts close to those measurements). You will need to get bigger tips and exhaust hose, but it will open up the exhaust a bit more.

those are jacketed headers.  there is an inside pipe that carries the exhaust and the cavity between the 2 pipes is filled with water.  they're cool to the touch.  those in those pictures are also about $3-4k a set. 

single wall through transom headers will burn the shit out of you if you just look at them. 


stick with logs, or keep your eyes peeled for a "center rise" exhaust setup like the one in my sig.  i found my manifolds for $50 on craigslist and then the risers were like $200.  ive seen many others out there for like 300-600 bucks.
