Bbc 505...?

I've an opportunity to buy a really nice Carrera open bow I/O, thru broker. Add is saying "505" Chevy.... 502 I know,but 505? Anyone familiar w/ them or build them and how are they? Maybe it's a typo error. I'll Google too. Thanks gentlemen!

It's a stroked 454. I thinks it's about as big as you can get with a standard deck 454. My buddy runs one in a 70 Camero and it flys. Not sure if that helps you

If it's an original 502 that hasn't been rebuilt I'd say you're pretty safe. If it's in fact a 505 or custom built stroker, I would recommend getting as much info as possible about the build, builder and parts used before dropping much money on this one.

This engine combo consists of a .100 over bore on a 454 block standard 9.800 deck, with a 4.250 stroke crank to achieve a 505 ci BBC. Also built typically with a 6.385 (.250 longer rod) to achieve a rod ratio of 1.50. I built one of these engines for a marine application for a customer a few years back.

Did you run longer rods? 6.585? Did the pin break into the oil ring?

Not sure, Bostick could tell you. Crower billet maxi lite .400 long rods. Just got it freshened up and went from a 427 tall deck to a dart block 10.2
