Best place to mount elec. fuel pump?

So I'e got 2 tanks, can I still put it either on rhe right or left? Or would it be better say in the center of my transom? If I mount to my transom how bad would an occasional wave over the back be? How low does the pump need to be, lower than the top of the tank,or lower than that. Should the filter /seperator be between the tank and the pump? I'm sure there is more than 1 good way,just tryin to look before I leap. Thanks Kreg

When i mounted my Holley pump it said mount it as low as you can. I guess so when it starts to feed gravity will help

Holleys aren't as bad at this, but Mallory pumps cannot pull uphill at all. The grabbing the fuel from the pump inlet side is an electric pumps hardest thing it has to do, anything you can improve here will help the pump. You have the trade off of low enough so the fuel isn't being sucked uphill at 1/8 tank, but high enough so it isn't sitting underwater when you have a bit of water in the boat. You want the shortest fuel line you can get, optimally 2 pumps, 1 at each tank. Failing that, one pump on the transom will split the difference between the tanks and will be the best compromise (and will still work)..

Mechanicals have the opposite problem- they can suck the tank from a long way away but have issues pushing that fuel out.

Thanks 2sav and Speedy. Nobody has a killer fuel delivery set up they are dyin to show. I guess transom it is . 2 tanks to a y block then fuel filter/ seperator, then pump under and up to carb. I dunno seems like there shoule be something cleaner and further away from the headers. Anyone mount there pump in front of the block?

Dont know about anyone else but i would think that would put the pump to far away from the tanks

One tank maybe two tanks

thats alot of empty line if you lose you'r prime. But i could be wrong, i was always told close to the tank

this is how i did it,

then moved it to the inside of the stringer, i made the two tanks come to a T on the transom then to the pump. work fine until the old holley blue gave out.

ralph, you said to a T, is it evenly taking from each tank, or electric switch to pull from left side then the right or how did you do it, if you redo again what changes to better it but looks good

Thanks Ralph I was goin to run 1 tank at a time so pulling evenly wouldn't matter to me. its been my experiance those to tanks will level then selves out. I found that out the hard way puttin high octaine in 1 tank and pump in the other. Oh but that boat had bottom feeding tanks. BTW Does anyone have a back flow valve in there system.

Ralph, That's about how I was thinking about doing it. I'll be pulling my tanks and if I can put a fitting on the pickup tube, I'll be getting away from the black rubber fuel line crap. Thanks for the photo. I'll mount mine on the inside of the stringer as well.

i just made sure the lines were of even length and i never had any probs

i wanted them to pull from both at the same time to keep the boat balanced, and no back flow valve

and i now run clay smith mech on both boats, the electric was just one more thing to go wrong

Cool I know Superdave. Can you make these up on the fly or do you have to have special tools to make them up? Would be nice to have good looking lines with out the expense.

BTW - Hotboat is off line and has been for a few days.

I've seen the push lock hose in jegs, the blue hose on my motor is that but I used clamps anyway, I bought it at House Of Hose I don't know if there national or not. Unfortunatly for me the stringer mount is out because I'm runnin tt bassetts.
