Breather caps leaking

So I had the boat out this weekend, ran solid, but the breather caps on either valve cover leak pretty good and create a mess, like oil all over the hull and in the bilge. Some might be coming from the valve cover gaskets themselves too. Just curious what some people would do in this case, if you installed a puke tank or put different breathers on or installed a pcv valve. And pics if you have them. Thanks!

Compression, leak down check for starters ,if all numbers come out okay your breathers are saturated in oil.if they are the mr. Gasket breather toss em out get new better breathers or go puke tank.

It's a brand new engine. I just figured the crankcase pressure is too high

I'm running the tall Edelbrock rectangular tall breathers and have this issue with my BBC with 20 hours on it too. Can't wait for some responses. Great question.

I've had this issue also since last season  .tried a couple different breathers and after a bit I got oil everywhere.ultimately gonna get a puke tank set up to keep the bilge clean.

What kind of motor? BBC? How many quarts of oil do you run?
Sometimes running a little less oil than the pan capacity helps, like 8 qt in a 10 qt pan.

Are there baffles under the breathers? Do you have foam in the breathers?
If yes, and your leak down checks out OK, I think a puke tank or pan evac system should help fix your problem.

Brand new 461 BBC. Probably 9-10 qts. oil in it now. Has rubber grommets on breathers. Explain the evac system, like a puke tank?

Is that a 10 qt pan?

Rubber grommets: so, you have the push in, round style breather? I think those still could use baffles. They mount on the on the underside of the v/c to help prevent oil from going out of the breather, just air. As far as the foam I mentioned, I was thinking of the tall breathers. They usually have some type of foam in them to help trap the oil.

Pan evac is similar to a puke tank. Have you seen motors with hoses coming from the v/c to the header collector? That's a pan evac system. As the exhaust goes out of the header, it creates a vacuum and sucks the crankcase pressure out.

I agree. Am using rubber grommett push in breathers. Forgot to put the baffles in and they leaked terribly. Installed the baffles and problem fixed. Running 8 quarts in a 10 quart pan. May not be your issue but maybe.

They are square metal plates that go right under the breather on the inside of the valve cover. If you pull the breather you will see metal real close to the hole...if you have them installed.

Yeah, I don't have that plate under my valve cover. Is it something that can get installed easily? I'll try getting the baffled rubber grommets first and see what happens
