CP Performance wiring harness
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:12:06 PM »
So I'm going to just rewire the boat. I had some electrical issues at the avi with wires breaking so I'm thinking a short term patch isn't the solution here, thanks to the SCJB crew for jumping in and getting me through the weekend!

I'm going to order this kit from CP but is there anything I should know or any heads up before I gut this thing.

2 issues i already see are 1, this kit has no wiring for the lights, not that they worked anyways. And 2, I have dual tanks and there is a switch on the dash which switches the fuel tank gauge between the two. I'm sure I'm going to have to modify it but thought I'd ask first!

I noticed that too on the kit. Im doing the same deal on my bros day cruiser. I'm just gonna wire the lights and tank valve to ignition independently so when you turn the key it's hot and since they are close together,  the power is coming from the same place anyway. CP also has full wire diagrams so you know where to tap in. Hope this helps 👍🏼.

Ah! So that probably explains why I have 3 wires crammed into each terminal on the ignition switch.

So, Ill throw this out there. I searched a lot of the posts on here last night and it seems like building my own harness is doable. I have some basic electrical knowledge and ive done stereos and stuff. I am sure I could build it and ad my additional accessories with a little time and patience and do a nice clean job but is it worth it? I know it would save a couple bucks but thats not necessarily my concern, just wondering what the consensus is. Take the time and do it right, or spend the money and do it right now? Thanks for the input!

I SAY ITS JUST UP TO YOUR OWN DISCRETION . I MYSELF COULD DO THE WIRING ALSO BUT I HAVE LITTLE PATIENCE AND FOR THE PRICE IT WOULD BE A LOT LET HASSLE TO JUST BUY THIERS AND THROW IT IN. NO DOUBT YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN SO ITS JUST UP TO YOU AND HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT YA KNOW.

Plan it out carefully and it should go as smooth or better as if u bought the kit. I made mine from scratch. I made up a schematic including lights and stereo. Patience.

I have built a few harnesses where I had to incorporate my EFI set up to the boat electrical as well as the MSD to the system as well. Search boating industry wire color codes and use them.

I cheated and bought the harness  as well. Had it installed and supported in about and hour. To me the money was worth more then the patients.
