Yes. I like to run the dump up on the side of the boat next to the drivers seat so you have a visual reference as to cooling flow....if the water stops flowing, you'll notice it faster than on the temp gauge and can shut it down earlier

When I was running mine dry I took it out to lake elsinore 3 times and the other times to big river. This was 4 or so years ago. Not sure how much has changed at the lakes regarding running dry headers but at the river you'll never get hassled. Imo dry headers are not that much louder then no baffle wet headers.
