When I was having fuel issues, I thought my mechanical pump was to blame - so I put in a Holley marine electric. Once I figured out what the real problem was - I thought about removing it.
However the long cranking cycles with a mechanical (when the engine has been sitting), the fact I can run the carbs dry when I pull it out (to keep the cabs from varnishing) and the fact that last week I transfered 25 gallons of fuel from the boat tanks to the jeep tank for the drive home from mojave when the trip was cut short showed me I like the electric better....
I still have the mechanical attached and pumping air though just in case the electric one has issues. Maybe I should stick the inlet in the hull and let it pump bildge water out of the boat....
