Engine Harness Diagram Revised
« on: January 28, 2008, 06:12:38 AM »
I spent last night drawing up a color coded diagram of my engine harness. I hope it sheds some light as to how the engine side should be wired on a typical jet boat. Granted I run a full MSD setup and a 1 wire alternator, but it should give you somewhat of an idea on how to wire the motor.

Nice diagram. Might want to add a main power cut off and some protection. You can see my main morosso cut off and the blue sea main power fuse. The Blue-Sea systems fuse is 50 amps and that feeds the fuse box up to the dash and ign switch. I then go from the fuse box under the dash to all the accessories I run, MSD Kicker wire, Banderlog, Bilge pump, lights, gauges..etc. Note in the pic all the grounds have been re-done. Also some of the grounds were temporary at the time.

I do have a fuse panel under the bow of the boat. Just haven't gotten that far on drawing up the dash diagram yet.

However I do not run a main disconnect, nor do I currently have a main breaker or fuse yet. I also need to fuse the MSD box. MSD claims you don't need to, but I honestly don't see the harm in putting a 10 amp fuse inline with it (since it'll only draw about 5.5 amps in my boat anyway).

Sounds good. I run a kill (laynard) interrupting the kicker wire for the MSD as well. I think I got the lanyard kit online somewhere. Pretty good price too.

I too have a kill switch...just never installed it. A lot of good that does. lol

However I probably will install it before she hits the water this season.

BTW I don't think fusing the "remote" wire on the MSD will do much of anything...I would fuse the hot wire coming straight off the battery since this is where the box pulls all of its current from.
