Exhaust paint ?
« on: January 29, 2010, 12:13:06 PM »
Anybody ever use VHT or DEI  paint for headers ?

Got a set of shortys coming today that im installing but i bought them used and are a bit rusty.  thought maybe i could just blast em and paint .  My other option is to send them to Embee or Jet Hot but that would be another week before i could get em back on my truck.

So any input, or just suck it up and send em off.........

I went to Autozone and bought the black hi heat header paint. Laid down a few coats and lasted all summer.

I used to sell VHT, and with all paints the most important part is in the prep.  Make sure it is clean

Then after you get them installed, lightly wipe off any finger prints with rubbing alcohol before you start the engine.

Eastwood???

Yep , checked them out to but the VHT has a higher temp rating. Not sure if headers will even reach 1000 degrees on a stock SBC  ???

The por15 peeps, make a high heat aluminized brush on paint that is good to 1400* if I remember it right. Looks pretty killer, held up pretty well on what I've used it on. I needs to be heated up between coats to like 300 plus. You don't want to try this in your oven :screwy: It's some stanky chit the first time you get it hot.

Jet hot coating is probably your best route. That's how I did mine. Dry exhaust xr1 drag with mufflers. Think I paid around 200$. They came out great, nice and chiny ;)

I've sprayed a bunch of different headers with the VHT stuff... even the "ceramic" look ended up really nice and last for a long time, everyone asked me where I got the headers coated  :sly: I just scotchbrited the headers and cleaned them well
