Holley 4150 Rebuild

My carb is leaking fuel out of the arm that connects to the throttle linkage. I'm sure it could use a rebuild. Who's the carb guru in So Cal?

Carb shop in Ontario, give him your specs and don't touch it when you get it back

News flash, your still going to have to mess with it, there no way those guys’s can dial in your carb for your application on the work bench. If it's really just a reseal/freshen up, just buy a Holley rebuild kit from Summit Racing and do it yourself, it’s not rocket science, jump in and learn a little bit, it won’t hurt you.

I used A1 carbs in Escondido and I only had to touch the idle screw.   They have a 454 on the bench to test it out.

From the pic, it looks like it might be leaking from the gasket between the main body and baseplate.
If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, give it a shot. Like Hans said, get a kit and go for it.  :thumbup:
Pay attention to the metering plate gasket they go a certain way yet, they "fit" either way.

If not, x2 for the Carb Shop in Ontario. I haven't had them service or rebuild my carbs, but have bought parts and have asked MANY questions and they always seemed happy to help.

I think that might be the leak too. I Think I'm going to rebuild it. At least then I have a shot of making it to the lake this weekend

Be careful if you have to scape a gasket, that metal is real soft. Maybe take pics to keep track of where everything goes.
There is a real good book with a red cover, called the Holley carburetor handbook that has helped me a lot.
Ask questions here and I'm sure YouTube has a million videos on rebuilding a carb.

Another question. I have the original carb that came on the boat. Says it's a Holley 4782-2. 800cfm double pumper. It's in rough shape. The other is the Holley 4150 750cfm. Good shape but obviously needs a rebuild, hence the leak. Which one would you rebuild?

Do not scrape off the old gaskets. Use something like Loctite Chisel gasket remover,  I use aircraft stripper and a small brass wire brush before they go in the parts washer. Scraping does more harm than good.

JMO.


And a vote for the 800cfm.

Did it run with the 800 when you got it? How is it running with the 750 now?
The 800 looks like it needs some cleaning and might need a bit more attention. I would bet that 750 just needs some gaskets.
But looks can be deceiving.  :sly: If you're trying to make it out this weekend, I'd probably just do the 750.

I doubt you would notice too much of a difference.

It was running with 800, surprisingly good. The other has been in the "other" project boat. Currently for sale less carburetor until I get this sorted out. It ran on the project boat but I think the 800 ran better. I got it from a guy that said it was rebuilt but I don't think it's adjusted right. If I get the rest of what I have to do I think either will get me through the weekend but I'm thinking long haul.

Rebuild the 800 that has been sitting for 15 years, or buy a new one, or steal the 750 from the other project temporarily, or permanently lol

If you could buy a brand spanking new carb what would it be. I'm looking at the Holley 9381. My setup is a fairly stock 460 w rpm performer intake. It's a 21' mini day so it a big boat. Whatcha think?
